Colin Douglas (novelist)
Colin Thomas Currie (born 1945), who writes under the pseudonym Colin Douglas, is a Scottish novelist. Biography Born in Glasgow in 1945, Douglas was schooled at Hamilton Academy before graduating in medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1970. He wrote a series of mainly darkly humorous novels following the career of a young Edinburgh medical graduate (David Campbell) from the late 1960s into the 70s and possibly 80s. The characters and situations appear exaggerated, but many of the most bizarre are recognisable, but altered and occasionally composite, figures from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and related institutions. The first novel, "The Houseman's Tale," was made into a short series by BBC Television in 1986 but not shown, after being held back for censorship, until 1987. Hamilton Academy
Hamilton Academy was a Boarding school, boarding and day school in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It was founded in 1588 as a boy's school and was open for nearly four centuries. In the late 19th century, the school began admitting girls. The school was described as "one of the finest schools in Scotland" in the Cambridge University Press County Biography of 1910, and was featured in a 1950 Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association magazine article series on ''Famous Scottish Schools''. Having joined the state sector, the school closed in 1972, as a result of the coming of comprehensive schools in Lanarkshire. The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) was established in 1729, and is the oldest voluntary hospital in Scotland. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities.
