CoMix Wave Films
is a Japanese animation film studio and distribution company based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. The studio is known for its anime feature films, short films, and television commercials, particularly those made by director Makoto Shinkai. It was founded in March 2007 when it split from CoMix Wave Inc., which was initially formed in 1998 from Itochu, Itochu Corporation, ASATSU (now Asatsu-DK, ADK), and other companies. On 15 October 2024, Toho announced that they'd acquired 45 shares or 6.09% of CoMix Wave Films. His first own directed work, it is a five-minute story about the relationship between a male cat and his female owner told from the cat's perspective. Shinkai made the film to help a romantic interest overcome a difficult situation, and his time living in a small apartment defined the scenario. The team of four animators used Shinkai's hand-drawn illustrations and Adobe After Effects for 3D visual effects. After completing the work, Shinkai himself distributed the film via CD-R and mail, selling 5,000 copies at anime conventions.
