Cinema (band)
Cinema were a short-lived English progressive rock band started in January 1982 by former Yes members Alan White and Chris Squire, with guitarist Trevor Rabin. The previous year, Squire and White had formed the abortive band XYZ with former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Cinema had plans to release their debut album in 1983, and were working on a number of songs, most of which had been written by Rabin. Later, these musicians were joined by keyboardist Tony Kaye and, eventually, Jon Anderson, both founding members of the then-disbanded Yes. They started recording the album ''90125'', but soon after this the band dropped the "Cinema" name, and continued as "Yes". Demos produced from the Cinema sessions included " Make It Easy" and "It's Over", with lead vocals by Rabin, and an early version of " It Can Happen" featuring Squire on vocals. Yes (band)
Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968. Comprising List of Yes band members, 20 full-time musicians over their career, their most notable members include lead singer Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire, guitarists Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin, drummers Bill Bruford and Alan White (Yes drummer), Alan White, and keyboardists Tony Kaye (musician), Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman. The band have explored several musical styles and are often regarded as progressive rock pioneers. Since February 2023, the band's line-up consists of Howe, keyboardist Geoff Downes, bassist Billy Sherwood, singer Jon Davison, and drummer Jay Schellen. ''90125'' is the eleventh studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 7 November 1983 by Atco Records. After Yes disbanded in 1981, following the ''Drama'' (1980) tour, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White and Trevor Rabin (guitarist, singer, songwriter) formed Cinema, and began recording an album with original Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye, who had been fired in 1971. They adopted a more commercial and pop-oriented musical direction as the result of their new material, much of which derived from Rabin's demos. During the mixing stage, former Yes singer Jon Anderson, who had left in 1980, accepted an invitation to return and record the co-lead vocals, and subsequently Cinema became the new lineup of Yes. Named for its Atco catalogue number, ''90125'' was released to a generally positive reception and introduced the band to a new generation of fans. "Cinema" is an instrumental by the progressive rock band Yes, from their 1983 album, ''90125''. In 1985 it won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, the band's only Grammy. History The 1980 incarnation of Yes included Trevor Horn, Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White. When this group split up following the tour for the album ''Drama'', Squire and White joined forces with singer and guitarist Trevor Rabin. The three were eventually joined by former Yes member Tony Kaye, and the four began writing and recording demos under the band name " Cinema". Chris Squire played some of the band Cinema's recordings with former Yes lead singer Jon Anderson, who expressed interest in participating in the project. With four out of the five having been Yes members, it was decided to change the name of the band from Cinema to Yes. Yesyears
''Yesyears'' is the first boxed set by English progressive rock band Yes, released in August 1991 on Atco Records. After the group left Atco for Arista Records when they became an eight-man formation in 1990, the deal gave Atco the right to the band's back catalogue, thus allowing them to release a career-spanning box set. ''Yesyears'' contains studio and live tracks from 1969 to 1991 with previously unreleased mixes and songs, digitally remastered by Joe Gastwirt. One of the major attractions of ''Yesyears'' was its inclusion of rare material, including many previously unreleased songs, and a full-colour booklet detailing Yes's history. A condensed version of this package, entitled '' Yesstory'', would be released in 1992 on two discs. "It Can Happen" is a song by the progressive rock band Yes, from their 1983 album ''90125''. It was released as the third single from that album, reaching number 51 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in 1984. It also reached number 5 on the ''Billboard'' Mainstream Rock chart. History Following the 1981 breakup of the band, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White joined with South African guitarist Trevor Rabin to form a new band called Cinema. An early version of the song "It Can Happen", sung by Squire, was written and recorded during this time. Make It Easy
"Make It Easy" is a 1991 song by the progressive rock band Yes. An early version of this song from 1981 was written and sung by Trevor Rabin, originally as a demo titled "Don't Give In". It was later re-worked by Yes which included Chris Squire, Alan White and Tony Kaye after Jon Anderson made his departure from the band. The song was unreleased until 1991, when it was included on the Yes boxed set ''Yesyears'' and released as a cassette single backed with "Long Distance Runaround". Jon Anderson
Jon Anderson (born John Roy Anderson, 25 October 1944) is a British, and latterly American, singer, songwriter and musician, best known as the former lead singer of the progressive rock band Yes (band), Yes, which he formed in 1968 with bassist Chris Squire. Renowned for his countertenor range, he was a member of the band across three tenures until 2004, and was also the singer of the Yes-linked projects Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe and Yes Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog) is a broad genre of rock music that primarily developed in the United Kingdom through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early-to-mid-1970s.
