Chundikkulam Bird Sanctuary
Chundikkulam National Park (; ) is a national park in northern Sri Lanka, approximately north east of Kilinochchi. History Chundikkulam Lagoon and its surrounding area was designated as a bird sanctuary on 25 February 1938 under the ''Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (No. 2) of 1937''. In January 2009 the Sri Lanka Army's 55 Division, advancing from Nagar Kovil, re-captured the area around Chundikkulam sanctuary from the militant Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Subsequently, the Sri Lankan military started building military bases in the sanctuary and barred local fishermen from using the sanctuary and local residents from returning to their homes. The army opened the Chundikulam Nature Park Holiday Resort in the northern part of the sanctuary in January 2012. Madhu Road National Park (; ) is a national park in northern Sri Lanka, approximately east of Mannar. History The Madhu Road area was designated as a sanctuary on 28 June 1968 under the ''Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (No. 2) of 1937''. The sanctuary had an area of . Elephant Pass
Elephant Pass (; ) is a region located at the gateway of the Jaffna Peninsula in the Northern Province, Sri Lanka. It lies about 340 km north of the capital. It has an important military base and used to be the island's largest salt field. It was regularly the site of battles during the Sri Lankan civil war. List Of National Parks Of Sri Lanka
National parks are a class of protected areas in Sri Lanka and are administered by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. National parks are governed by the ''Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (No. 2) of 1937'' and may be created, amended or abolished by ministerial order. All of the land in national parks are state-owned and the entire habitat is protected. Activities prohibited in national parks include hunting, killing or removing any wild animal; destroying eggs/nests of birds and reptiles; disturbing of wild animals; interfering in the breeding of any animal; felling/damaging of any plant; breaking up land for cultivation/mining/other purpose; kindling/carrying of fire; and possessing/using any trap/explosive/poison to damage animal or plant life.
