Christopher Brooke (poet)
Christopher Brooke (died 1628) was an English poet, lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1604 and 1626. Life He was the son of Robert Brooke, a rich merchant and alderman of York, who was twice lord mayor of that city. Anthony Wood states that he was educated at one of the universities; Sidney Lee thought it probable that, like his brother Samuel Brooke, he was a member of Trinity College, Cambridge. He subsequently studied law at Lincoln's Inn, and shared a chamber there with John Donne. Shortly before Christmas 1601 he witnessed Donne's secret marriage with the daughter of Sir George More, lieutenant of the Tower of London, performed by his brother, Samuel Brooke, and witnessed by the father of the bride, who opposed the match and contrived to commit Donne and his two friends to Marshalsea Prison immediately afterwards. Christopher Brooke (British Army Officer)
Brigadier-General Christopher Robert Ingham Brooke, (4 July 1869 – 28 December 1948) was a British soldier and Conservative MP for Pontefract from 1924 to 1929. He was born in Thornhill, Yorkshire in 1869, the son of Ingham Brooke, and was educated at Winchester College. Brooke was a major when he fought in the Second Boer War, where he was in command of 2nd Mounted infantry, which in 1902 was based in the Transvaal Colony. He later fought in the First World War, and received the DSO in 1915. He was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the 1917 New Year Honours, and retired as brigadier-general. Basso & Brooke is a fashion label formed by Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke. Bruno Basso was born in Santos, São Paulo, Brazil. Christopher Brooke was born in Newark-on-Trent, UK. After meeting in 2001, they produced their first collection in 2004, and were the inaugural winners of Fashion Fringe, a UK talent competition to search out for the next big thing in fashion.
