Chris Blackwell
Christopher Percy Gordon Blackwell OJ (born 22 June 1937) is a Jamaican-British former record producer and the founder of Island Records, which has been called "one of Britain's great independent labels". According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to which Blackwell was inducted in 2001, he is "the single person most responsible for turning the world on to reggae music." '' Variety'' describes him as "indisputably one of the greatest record executives in history." Having formed Island Records in Jamaica on 22 May 1959 when he was nearly 22, Blackwell was among the first to record the Jamaican popular music that eventually became known as ska. ''Free'' is the second studio album by English rock band Free, recorded and released in 1969. It saw the burgeoning of the songwriting partnership between Paul Rodgers and 16-year-old bassist Andy Fraser; eight of the nine songs are credited to the two. New Christian (; ; ; ; ; ) was a socio-religious designation and legal distinction referring to the population of former Jews, Jewish and Muslims, Muslim Conversion to Christianity, converts to Christianity in the Spanish Empire, Spanish and Portuguese Empire, Portuguese empires, and their European colonization of the Americas, respective colonies in the New World. The Lindo Family
The Lindo family was a Sephardi Jews, Sephardic Jewish merchant and List of banking families, banking family, which rose to prominence in medieval Spain. Portugal Manuel Lindo was a Cosmography, cosmographer and Chair of the Astronomy department at the University of Coimbra in the 16th century. He published a nautical guide in manuscript form in 1539. He was a dear friend of Amatus Lusitanus, who described him as the eminent astronomer. The Jamaica Regiment
The Jamaica Regiment is the main formation of land troops in the Jamaica Defence Force. It is a non- mechanised infantry regiment consisting of five battalions, three regular infantry battalions, one territorial infantry battalion, and a Combat Support Battalion. A fifth infantry battalion (5 JR) is starting to be formed. Blanche Blackwell (; 9 December 1912 – 8 August 2017) was a Jamaican heiress, mother of Chris Blackwell, and an inspirational muse to Ian Fleming and Noël Coward. Early life Blanche Lindo was born on 9 December 1912 in San José, Costa Rica, the second daughter and third child (of four) of Percy Lindo and Hilda Violet () Lindo. Lindo was a product of cousin marriage. Both her mother and father were descendants of the Lindo family, a Sephardi Jewish family originally from Spain who suffered persecution for their religion, and so became New Christians. Blackwell's ancestor, Alexandre Lindo, would go on to settle in Kingston, Jamaica in the 18th century and he and his descendants would make their fortune as merchants, financiers, and planters.
