Chowra
Chowra is an island in the Andaman and Nicobar islands group of India. It is located to the north of Teressa island and to the south of Battimalv Island in the Indian Ocean. It is also known as Choura, Tatat or Sanenyo. History The island suffered severe damage during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Geography The island is generally flat but has a 104.5 m high rocky upland at its southern end. Coral reefs extend about 1.5 miles from the northwestern side of the island. Demographics The island has three villages, belonging to 5 clans. Tahaila Beach is located on the east coast, where the jetty is. Northern Agency and Southern Agency are in the middle of the island, and consist of former inhabitants of: Alhiat, Chongkamong, Kuitasuk, Raihion and Tahaila. Teressa (Nicobar Islands)
Teressa (Teressa language: ''Luroo'', , also called Tarasa Dwip) is one of the Nicobar Islands, India. History When Austria claimed the Nicobar Islands as a colony (1778-1784) on the assumption that Denmark had abandoned its claim (1754/56-1868), they named Teressa after the Austrian Arch-duchess Maria Theresia. Austria abandoned its claim in 1784. Extensive damage to the island's flora and fauna occurred following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Geography Teressa lies west of the neighboring island of Camorta Island, Camorta and northwest of Katchal Island, Katchal. The smaller island known as Chowra is to the north and Bompoka lies to the east. The northern portion of the island has elevations reaching 87 meters. The island has a surface area of 101.26 km2. The Nicobarese people are an Austroasiatic-speaking people of the Nicobar Islands, a chain of islands in the Bay of Bengal north of Sumatra, forming part of the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Nicobar District
Nicobar district is one of three districts in the Indian union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The district's administrative territory encompasses all of the Nicobar Islands, which are located in the Indian Ocean, between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The headquarters of the district is the village of Malacca, located on the island of Car Nicobar. The district administration is headed by a Deputy Commissioner, who in turn reports to the Lt. Battimalv Island
Battimalv is an island of the Nicobar Islands. It is part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. History The island was severely affected by the tsunami that was caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, which led to the destruction of a coconut plantation on the island that was being used by Car Nicobar families.
