Charlotte Watts
Charlotte Helen Watts, (born 1962) is a British mathematician, epidemiologist, and academic. Since 2006, she has been Professor of Social and Mathematical Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She was also the Chief Scientific Advisor to the UK's Department for International Development from 2015 to 2020. Her research interests include HIV and gender-based violence. Early life and education Born in Farnborough, Kent, England in 1962, she was educated at Falmouth School, a state school in Cornwall. She studied mathematics and pure mathematics at university. She graduated from Exeter College, Oxford with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1984, and from Marlboro College (in Vermont, US) with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in 1986. Farnborough is a village in south-eastern Greater London, England, located in the historic county of Kent. Situated south of Locksbottom, west of Green Street Green, north of Downe and Hazelwood, and east of Keston, it is centred southeast of Charing Cross. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is a foundation that takes donations from public, private, philanthropic, and civil society organisations, to finance independent research projects to develop vaccines against emerging infectious diseases (EID). CEPI is focused on the World Health Organization's (WHO) " blueprint priority diseases", which include: the Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS-CoV), the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the Nipah virus, the Lassa fever virus, and the Rift Valley fever virus, as well as the Chikungunya virus and the hypothetical, unknown pathogen "Disease X". Respect (charity)
Respect is a UK-based charity working in the area of domestic violence. A national organisation based in London, it provides services, including helplines, for male and female perpetrators of domestic violence, for male victims of domestic violence, and for young people who are violent in the home or relationships. It provides confidential counselling to perpetrators of domestic violence as a way to promote the safety of victims. Nicole Westmarland
Nicole Westmarland (born 1977) is a British academic and activist in the area of violence against women. She is currently a professor at the University of Durham, where she researches rape, domestic violence and prostitution. With Geetanjali Gangoli, she has edited two books: ''International Approaches to Rape'', and ''International Approaches to Prostitution: Law and Policy in Europe and Asia''. Originally a taxi driver, Westmarland’s first publication focused upon security issues for female taxi drivers, following her finding that female drivers were significantly more likely to face sexual harassment from customers than their male counterparts. Alongside her academic work, Westmarland is often in the news as a commentator on violence against women.
