Charles Douglas Drysdale
Charles Douglas Drysdale (October 1915 – 1984) was a Scottish nationalist activist and businessman. Drysdale was born in Glasgow in October 1915, the second son of William Drysdale of Drysdales of Yoker, the pump manufacturers who supplied most of Glasgow's shipbuilding industry. He qualified as an engineer, and spent the war years with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), achieving the rank of major and being awarded the MBE. At the end of the war, Douglas and his elder brother, Ian Drysdale, left Drysdales (which had been bought out by Weir Pumps by then) and started Drysdale Brothers (Larbert) Ltd, Bronze Founders and Engineers. He became active in the Scottish National Party (SNP) in 1962, having moved from Glasgow first to Dunblane and then to Dollar, Clackmannanshire.
