Charis Markopoulos
Charalambis "Charis" Markopoulos (alternate spellings: Charalambos, Haris) ( el, Χαραλάμπης "Χάρης" Μαρκόπουλος; born January 20, 1982) is a former Greek professional basketball player and current professional assistant coach for Promitheas Patras of the Greek Basket League and the EuroCup. Playing career Pro clubs Markopoulos played professional basketball with the Greek top-tier level Greek Basket League clubs Iraklis, Makedonikos, and PAOK. He also played in the European 2nd-tier level, FIBA Saporta Cup competition, and in the European top-tier level, FIBA SuproLeague competition, as a member of Iraklis. He also won the Greek Championship U-18 during 1997–98 season, along with Lazaros Papadopoulos. His basketball playing career ended prematurely, due to complications from Guillain–Barré syndrome , that he suffered while played with Iraklis. Greece National Basketball Team
The Greece men's national basketball team ( el, Eθνική Oμάδα Καλαθοσφαίρισης Ελλάδος) represents Greece in international basketball. They are controlled by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Greece. Greece is currently ranked ninth in the FIBA World Rankings. Greece appeared eight times at the FIBA World Cup, their best performance coming in 2006 as runners-up, after beating the United States 101–95 in the tournament's semi-final. Greece took part the in the EuroBasket 28 times, winning the tournament twice; while also coming away with one silver ( 1989) as well as two bronze medals ( 1949, 2009). Soulis Markopoulos
Anastasios "Soulis" Markopoulos ( el, Ἀναστάσιος "Σούλης" Μαρκόπουλος; born March 1, 1949) is a Greek former professional basketball player and a professional basketball coach. He last coached Aris of the Greek Basket League. Playing career Markopoulos played basketball with the Greek clubs Olympos Saranta Ekklision and Dimokritos. Coaching career Markopoulos has coached, in his career, teams such as: Iraklis, PAOK, Aris, Makedonikos, AEK, and Maroussi. His most remarkable success was the acquisition of the FIBA Korać Cup title, while with PAOK Bravo in the 1993–94 season. Guillain–Barré Syndrome
Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rapid-onset muscle weakness caused by the immune system damaging the peripheral nervous system. Typically, both sides of the body are involved, and the initial symptoms are changes in sensation or pain often in the back along with muscle weakness, beginning in the feet and hands, often spreading to the arms and upper body. Lazaros Papadopoulos (Greek: Λάζαρος Παπαδόπουλος; born 3 June 1980) is a Greek former professional basketball player. He was listed at 7 ft (2.13 m) 265 lbs (120 kg), and he played the center position. During his playing career, he was best known for his signature skyhook move. Papadopoulos played with several teams in Europe throughout his professional club career, and he most notably won the EuroLeague twice, in 2002 with Panathinaikos and in 2012 with Olympiacos.
