Chappie Sheppell
Chappie Sheppell (May 1, 1914 – November 29, 1985) was an American soccer forward who led the American Soccer League in scoring in 1943. He was a member of the 1936 US Olympic soccer team. Sheppell was born Charles Frederick Sheppell on May 1, 1914 in Kearny, New Jersey. Sheppell began playing professionally in the American Soccer League in 1934 for the Kearny Scots. In 1942, he finished fifth in the scoring table with twelve goals in seventeen games while playing for the Kearny Irish. In 1943, he topped the charts with twelve goals and fourteen assists in fifteen games. Point Pleasant is a borough in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was down from 19,306 in 2000 but still up from 18,177 in 1990. The Borough is a Jersey Shore community situated south of the Manasquan River and north and east of the Beaverdam Creek and its confluence with the Metedeconk River. The Kearny Scots are an American soccer club based in Kearny, New Jersey. The club presently plays in the Eastern Premier Soccer League, which is a United States Adult Soccer Association-affiliated league and an amateur affiliate of the professional third tier National Independent Soccer Association. The Scots are one of the oldest continuously operating soccer clubs in the United States. In the Scots' earlier days, they played in both the National Association Football League and the second American Soccer League. Commonly known as the Irish-Americans, the club was renamed the Kearny Celtic prior to the 1942/43 season. The team returned to their original name before the 1949/50 season.
