Centria University of Applied Sciences (former name Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences) ( fi, Centria ammattikorkeakoulu, sv, Centria yrkeshögskola) is a private-recognized higher education institution in Finland. The name Centria University of Applied Sciences is derived from Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences and officially used from the start of autumn semester 2012. The University has three campuses: Kokkola, Jakobstad and Ylivieska. Internationalisation is one of Centria's core values thus the University offers three international bachelor's degree programmes taught in English, namely DP in business management, DP in industrial management, and DP in information technology. An ammattikorkeakoulu (yrkeshögskola in Swedish, polytechnic or university of applied sciences in English), abbreviated ''AMK'', is a Finnish institution of higher education. The term literally means "school of higher vocational education". Although the term is often translated into English as "polytechnic", the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rectors' Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences use the term "university of applied sciences". Unlike universities, AMKs focus on R&D by applying previous knowledge, rather than producing new research. They have a statutory objective in regional development. Education In Finland
The educational system in Finland consists of daycare programmes (for babies and toddlers), a one-year "pre-school" (age six), and an 11-year compulsory basic comprehensive school (age seven to age eighteen). Nowadays secondary general academic and vocational education, higher education and adult education are compulsory. During their nine years of common basic education, students are not selected, tracked, or streamed. There is also inclusive special education within the classroom and instructional efforts to minimize low achievement. Ylivieska A View From High
Ylivieska () is a town and municipality of Northern Ostrobothnia region, Finland. It has a population of (), and it serves as the administrative centre for Kalajokilaakso and Pyhäjokilaakso, an area with a population of about 90,000 inhabitants. Ylivieska is also the commercial center of the Oulu South region, the southern part of the late Oulu province. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The word ''Yli'' means "upper", while the word ''Vieska'' is supposed to mean a "shallow ford". Geography Ylivieska is located in Northern Ostrobothnia about south of the city of Oulu.
