Central Organisation For Railway Electrification
The Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) is the unit of Indian Railways responsible for railway electrification, electrification of the network. The organisation, founded in 1979, is headquartered in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Project units operate in Ambala, Bangalore, Chennai, Secunderabad, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Danapur, and New Jalpaiguri. CORE headquarters has Electrical, Signal and Telecommunications (S&T), Civil Engineering, Stores, Personnel, Vigilance and Finance departments headed by Chief Project Directors. In line with a 2018 government decision, Indian Railways aims to electrify all of its broad gauge network. , 68,701 route kilometres (rkm) were electrified, which is 98.83% of the total broad-gauge network (69,512 rkm, including Konkan Railway). The Great Indian Peninsula Railway (reporting mark GIPR) was a predecessor of the Central Railway (and by extension, the current state-owned Indian Railways), whose headquarters was at the Boree Bunder in Mumbai (later, the Victoria Terminus and presently the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus).
