The Castellón Marathon ( ca, Marató Castelló; es, Maratón Castellón) is an annual road running, road-based marathon hosted by Castellón de la Plana, Spain, since 2010. The marathon is a World Athletics Label Road Races, World Athletics Label Road Race. The marathon is held on the same day as the 10K Castellón ( ca, 10K Castelló, link=no; es, 10K Castellón, link=no), a 10K run, 10K race that is also a World Athletics Label Road Races, World Athletics Label Road Race. Ethiopian runner Yalemzerf Yehualaw set a 10K run world record progression, world record for the 10K run during this race in 2022, when she completed the course in a time of 29:14. Castellón De La Plana
Castellón de la Plana (officially in ca-valencia, Castelló de la Plana), or simply Castellón ( ca-valencia, Castelló, link=no) is the capital city of the province of Castellón, in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula, on the Costa del Azahar (or ''Costa dels Tarongers'') by the Mediterranean Sea. The mountain range known as Desert de les Palmes rises inland north of the town. The Almaz (russian: Алмаз, lit=Diamond) program was a highly secret Soviet military space station program, begun in the early 1960s. Three crewed military reconnaissance stations were launched between 1973 and 1976: Salyut 2, Salyut 3 and Salyut 5. To cover the military nature of the program the three launched Almaz stations were designated as civilian Salyut space stations. Salyut 2 failed shortly after achieving orbit, but Salyut 3 and Salyut 5 both conducted successful crewed testing. Genet Getaneh Wendimagegnehu (born 6 January 1986) is an Ethiopian professional long-distance runner who competes in half marathon and marathon competitions. She represented Ethiopia at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2007 and 2008, finishing fourth at the latter race. She is a two-time winner of the Great Ethiopian Run and won the 2010 Zevenheuvelenloop. She has a personal best of 2:25:38 hours for the marathon and 1:08:18 hours for the half marathon. Berhan Ahmed is an Eritrean- Australian social activist. He is the chairman of the African Think Tank, and in 2004 was the first immigrant born in Africa to run for an Australian parliamentary office. Ahmed was also presented the 2009 Victorian Australian of the Year award. Background Ahmed was born in Eritrea. He became a refugee at age 15 during the civil war and fled to Sudan. After attending high school with funding from the UNHCR, he gained a degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Alexandria in Egypt. At the age of 22, Ahmed sought asylum in Australia, eventually settling in Melbourne. He drove a taxi and worked as a tram conductor, while earning a master's degree in Animal Science at La Trobe University.
