Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Launch Complex 20
Space Launch Complex 20 (SLC-20) is a launch site at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. It is the northernmost launchpad in Missile Row, located at the northern terminus of ICBM Road between Launch Complex 19 and Launch Complex 34. Originally designated as Launch Complex 20 (LC-20) by the United States Air Force, SLC-20 was historically built for launching the HGM-25A Titan I in ICBM tests, and subsequently saw use by the Titan IIIA and various sounding rockets. The pad is currently leased to Firefly Aerospace for future use by their Firefly Alpha and Eclipse launch vehicles. Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) is an installation of the United States Space Force's Space Launch Delta 45, located on Cape Canaveral in Brevard County, Florida. Headquartered at the nearby Patrick Space Force Base, the station is the primary launch site for the Space Force's Eastern RangeCAST 1999, p. 1-12. with four launch pads currently active (Space Launch Complexes 36, 40, 41 and 46). The Space Coast is a region in the U.S. state of Florida around the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. It is one of several "themed" coasts around Florida. All orbital launches from American soil carrying NASA astronauts (running from Project Mercury in 1961 to the end of the Space Shuttle program in 2011, and since 2020 using the SpaceX Dragon 2) have departed from either KSC or Cape Canaveral. Loki, officially designated 76mm HEAA Rocket T220, was an American unguided anti-aircraft rocket based on the German Taifun. Like the Taifun, Loki never saw service in its original role, but later found widespread use as a sounding rocket. It was so successful in this role that several advanced versions were developed on the basic Loki layout, including the final Super Loki. Development As part of their anti-aircraft development program of 1942, the ''Luftwaffe'' began developing a number of guided missile projects. Transtage, given the United States Air Force designation SSB-10A, was an American upper stage used on Titan III rockets, developed by Martin Marietta and Aerojet. History Transtage was developed in anticipation of a requirement to launch military payloads to geostationary orbit; a contract for development of the stage was issued on 20 August 1962. The Titan II GLV (Titan II Gemini Launch Vehicle) or Gemini-Titan II was an American expendable launch system derived from the Titan II missile, which was used to launch twelve Gemini missions for NASA between 1964 and 1966. Two uncrewed launches followed by ten crewed ones were conducted from Launch Complex 19 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, starting with Gemini 1 on April 8, 1964. Titan was a family of United States expendable rockets used between 1959 and 2005. The Titan I and Titan II were part of the US Air Force's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) fleet until 1987. The space launch vehicle versions contributed the majority of the 368 Titan launches, including all the Project Gemini crewed flights of the mid-1960s. The Titan II was an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) developed by the Glenn L. Martin Company from the earlier HGM-25A Titan I, Titan I missile. Launch Complex 15 (LC-15) is an inactive launch pad located at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. One of the eight pads that comprises Missile Row, it was originally built for and used by ICBM tests for the HGM-25A Titan I and LGM-25C Titan II programs throughout the early 1960s. Additionally, it was leased out to ABL Space Systems in order to support launches of their RS1 rocket.
