Cape Alexander, Greenland
Cape Alexander (, also ''Uvdlerssuak'' and ''Sarfalik''; ) is a headland in the Baffin Bay, northwest Greenland, Avannaata municipalities of Greenland, municipality. It is one of the important Geography of Greenland#Extreme points, landmarks of Greenland. Geography Cape Alexander is located in Prudhoe Land, at the western end of Hartstene Bay with the Dodge Glacier to the east and the Storm Glacier to the southeast. This headland is the westernmost point of the island of Greenland. Sutherland Island (Tigssarfik) lies off the shore to the southeast. The small Carey Islands are located further to the west; among them Nordvestø (73°10'W), the westernmost point of Greenland as a territory. In geography, a cape is a headland, peninsula or promontory extending into a body of water, usually a sea. A cape usually represents a marked change in trend of the Coast, coastline, often making them important landmarks in sea navigation. This also makes them prone to natural forms of erosion, mainly tidal actions, resulting in a relatively short geological lifespan. Formation Capes can be formed by Glacier, glaciers, Volcano, volcanoes, and changes in sea level. Erosion plays a large role in each of these methods of formation. Avannaata
Avannaata (, ) is a municipality of Greenland created on 1 January 2018 from the bulk of the former Qaasuitsup municipality. It encompasses an area of 522,700 km2 and has 10,726 inhabitants. Geography In the south, Avannaata is flanked by the Qeqertalik municipality. In the southeast, it is bordered by the Sermersooq municipality; the border runs north–south ( 45° West meridian) through the center of the Greenland ice sheet (), so is free of traffic. In the east and northeast it is bordered by the Northeast Greenland National Park. Pituffik Space Base is an enclave on the Avannaata coast that is administered by the United States Space Force. Baffin Bay
Baffin Bay (Inuktitut: ''Saknirutiak Imanga''; ; ; ), located between Baffin Island and the west coast of Greenland, is defined by the International Hydrographic Organization as a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean. It is sometimes considered a sea of the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean. It is connected to the Atlantic via Davis Strait and the Labrador Sea. The narrower Nares Strait connects Baffin Bay with the Arctic Ocean. The bay is not navigable most of the year because of the Arctic ice pack, ice cover and high density of Sea ice, floating ice and icebergs in the open areas. Prudhoe Land
Prudhoe ( ) is a town and civil parish in the south of Northumberland, England. It is west of Newcastle upon Tyne and situated on a steep, north-facing hill on the south bank of the River Tyne. Prudhoe had a population of 11,675 at the 2011 census, making it the second largest town in the Tyne Valley after Hexham. Dodge Glacier
Dodge Glacier (), is a glacier in northwestern Greenland. Administratively it belongs to the Avannaata municipality. The glacier was named by Isaac Israel Hayes (1832 – 1881) after expedition member Henry W. Dodge during the American Arctic Expedition of 1860 – 1861. Geography The Dodge Glacier has its terminus in the Smith Sound, east of Cape Alexander (Ullersuaq), north of the Storm Glacier. The Dodge and Storm glaciers don't discharge directly from the Greenland Ice Sheet, but from an ice cap located at the southwestern end of Inglefield Land which is attached to the Ice Sheet from the southeast. A storm is any disturbed state of the natural environment or the atmosphere of an astronomical body.
