Canadian Meteorological And Oceanographic Society
The Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS; ) is the national society of individuals and organisations dedicated to advancing atmospheric and oceanic sciences and related environmental disciplines in Canada. CMOS was officially created in 1967 as the Canadian Meteorological Society, and adopted its present name in 1977, following an invitation by the Canadian Meteorological Society to the oceanographic community in Canada to join the Society. However, CMOS has a rich history dating back to 1939 when it was known as the Canadian Branch of the Royal Meteorological Society. The current president of CMOS is Professor Kimberly Strong. Roger Willis Daley (January 25, 1943 – August 29, 2001) was a British meteorologist known particularly for his work on data assimilation. Early life Daley was born in Purley, London, Purley, England on January 25, 1943, but moved with his parents to Canada at an early age. He studied at the University of British Columbia as an undergraduate and completed PhD studies at McGill University in 1971 where he was the student of Phil Merilees (Superintendent of NRL Marine Meteorology Division, 1997–2002).
