Canadian Electroacoustic Community
La Communauté électroacoustique canadienne (CEC; ''English'': The Canadian Electroacoustic Community) is Canada's national Electroacoustic music, electroacoustic / computer music / Sound art, sonic arts organization and is dedicated to promoting this progressive art form in its broadest definition: from "pure" acousmatic and computer music to soundscape and sonic art to hardware hacking and beyond. Australasian Computer Music Association
The Australasian Computer Music Association (ACMA) is a nonprofit Australia and New Zealand based organisation founded in 1989, which aims to promote electroacoustic and computer music. History ACMA was formed in 1989 as a regional organisation to promote electronic and computer music. The majority of ACMA's membership live in Australia and New Zealand. Gilles Gobeil
Gilles Gobeil (born September 27, 1954) is an electroacoustic music composer from Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada, and currently living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Gobeil received his musical education at the Université de Montréal (Mmus in Composition). Gobeil is professor for music theory at the Cégep de Drummondville and was guest professor for electro-acoustics at the Université de Montréal and at the Conservatoire de Montréal. His works have been performed in concerts throughout Canada and abroad. Louis Dufort
Louis Dufort (born July 29, 1970) is a composer of electroacoustic music from Montreal, Canada. His work includes music for fixed media, mixed music with processing, and visual music. Over his career, he has fulfilled numerous commissions for various ensembles and musical organizations, including the Association pour la création et la recherche électroacoustiques du Québec (ACREQ), Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), Réseaux/ Akousma, Chants libres, Codes d’accès, Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+), EMPAC, Quasar saxophone quartet, Bozzini string quartet, Sixtrum percussion ensemble and Centre d’art et de technologie des médias de Karlsruhe. Paul Dolden (born January 23, 1956, in Ottawa, Canada), is an electroacoustic music composer, currently living in Montréal, Canada. Paul Dolden began his career at age 16 as a professional electric guitarist, violinist, and cellist. Since age 29 he has won over twenty international awards for his music which is performed in both Europe and North America. His approach to audio technology is to use it as a platform to launch otherwise impossible musical performances, thereby making his computer behave like a virtual orchestra. Francis Dhomont
Francis Dhomont (2 November 1926 – 28 December 2023) was a French composer, a pioneer of electroacoustic and acousmatic music who worked and taught both in France and in Québec. Biography Born in Paris on 2 November 1926, Dhomont studied composition with Ginette Waldmeier, Charles Koechlin and Nadia Boulanger. In compositions for instruments and voices from 1944 to 1963, he tried to "reconcile modality and atonality". In 1963 he decided to dedicate his time to electroacoustic composition utilising natural sounds. Public performances of his music are done using the French "diffusion" technique over multiple loudspeakers. His work consists exclusively of tape pieces using natural, or "found" sounds, exploring morphological interplay and the ambiguities between sound and the images it may create. Marcelle Deschênes-Harvey born in Price near Rimouski, Québec (born 2 March 1939) is a Canadian multi-media artist, music educator and composer of electroacoustic music. She was a professor at the University of Montreal. Early life and education Marcelle Deschênes was born near Rimouski, Quebec. Yves Daoust (born 10 April 1946) is a Canadian composer who is particularly known for his works of electroacoustic music. He currently resides in Montréal. Life Born in Longueuil, Quebec, Daoust began his musical studies at the age of seven, studying piano with Alice Vigeant. At sixteen, he produced his first experiments in electroacoustic music when he "prepared" the family piano in order to create the soundtrack for a friend's 8mm experimental film. Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux (9 August 1938 – 2 February 1985) was a Canadian composer and music educator who played an important role in the contemporary classical music scene of Canada and France from the late 1960s through the mid-1980s. Christian Calon (born 5 September 1950) is a French-born Canadian composer who is active in electroacoustic music. He has worked extensively in large computer-based studios in Canada and Europe and has received commissions from the Canada Council, the Groupe de Musique Expérimentale de Marseille, and the Ministère des Affaires culturelles du Québec. Ned Bouhalassa (born 25 August 1962 in Le Mans, France) is a composer of film scores, television scores, and electroacoustic music. Norma Beecroft
Norma Marian Beecroft (April 11, 1934 – October 19, 2024) was a Canadian composer, record producer, broadcaster, and arts administrator. A member of the Canadian League of Composers and an associate of the Canadian Music Centre, she twice won the Canada Council's Lynch-Staunton Award for composition. She was commissioned to write works for such organizations as the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Canadian Electronic Ensemble, The Music Gallery, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the National Ballet of Canada, the Quebec Contemporary Music Society, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and York Winds among others.
