Canadian, Texas
Canadian is a city in and the county seat of Hemphill County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,339 at the 2020 census, down from 2,649 in 2010. It is named for the nearby Canadian River, a tributary of the Arkansas River. Incorporated in 1908, Canadian is sometimes called "the oasis of the High Plains". Canadian is on the eastern side of the Texas Panhandle, close to the border with Oklahoma. History In 1887 the city government began. The Köppen climate classification divides Earth climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature. Shamrock is a city in Wheeler County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the city had a total population of 1,789. Perryton is a city in and the county seat of Ochiltree County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 8,492. It is located a few miles south of the Texas / Oklahoma state line. History In the late 1910s, a railroad was built from east to west between the towns of Ochiltree and Gray. After neither got a railroad, the two communities decided to move both towns to the railroad and merge into a new community named Perryton. It was named after George M. Perry, an early county judge. The Smokehouse Creek Fire was a record-breaking wildfire affecting the northeastern Texas panhandle and western Oklahoma that started on February 26, 2024.
