Myra Ava Freeman (born May 17, 1949) is a Canadians, Canadian philanthropist, teacher, the List of lieutenant governors of Nova Scotia#Lieutenant Governors of Nova Scotia, 1867-present, 29th and first female Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Freeman was born Myra Ava Holtzman in Saint John, New Brunswick, the daughter of Anne Golda (Freedman), a homemaker, and Harry Holtzman, a businessman. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. In 1971, she started teaching with the Halifax Regional School Board until her appointment. Arthur Maxwell House
Arthur Maxwell House, (August 10, 1926 – October 17, 2013) was a Canadian neurologist and the tenth lieutenant governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. Born in Glovertown, Newfoundland, he graduated from medical school at Dalhousie University in 1952. He then specialized in neurology, at the Montreal Neurological Institute, and between 1959 and 1966 was the only neurologist in the province. In the 1970s, House became pioneer of telehealth by offering telephone consultations with patients in remote areas of the province. He had helped to establish the medical school at Memorial University of Newfoundland and worked for thirty years there as a professor of neurology. He also held several administrative positions there and he retired in 1993. In 1997, he was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell (born October 22, 1933) is a Canadian lecturer, doctor and politician. Counsell was a Canadian Senator and Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick from 1997 to 2003. Early life and career She was born in Baie Verte, New Brunswick, the daughter of Harry Frederick and Mildred (née Baxter) Trenholme. She married Kenneth Walter Counsell in 1972; they had two children, Giles Baxter Counsell and Lorna Joy Counsell. Kenneth Counsell died in 1981. She has a BSc from Mount Allison University, MA in nutrition from University of Toronto and an MD from the University of Toronto.
