Calì, also written in English as Cali, is an Italian surname, widespread mainly in the Ionian side of Sicily. Pina Calì
Pina Calì (2 December 1905 – 3 June 1949) was an Italian painter who was born and died in Sicily. Life Calì was born in Casteldaccia, Italy in 1905. She took to painting at the age of fifteen. She did not attend an art college but she received some lessons from the painter Onofrio Tomaselli. By 1926 her paintings were in the "Exhibition of young Sicilian painters" shown locally in Palermo and in Rome. She appeared in another joint exhibition in 1930 and the following year she had her first solo exhibition. The paintings included still life paintings, self portrait paintings and a noted painting of two naked women. In 1937 she married Silvestre Cuffaro, a sculptor and they were an artistic team. Cuffaro was also a professor at Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo. Francesco Calì
Francesco Calì (; 16 May 1882 – 3 September 1949) was an Italian professional football player, coach and referee, who played as a defender. He captained the Italy national football team in their first ever match, on 15 May 1910. Early life Calì was born in Riposto, Sicily on 16 May 1882, to Bruno Calì, a wine merchant. After pirate assaults on his father's business, he and his family immigrated to Switzerland two years later; he was nicknamed Franz. Career Calì played several games as a left-back for Swiss clubs Zürich and Urania Genève Sport. He then played for two rival Genovese teams: Genoa and Andrea Doria. Giulio Calì (26 March 1895 – 20 January 1967) was an Italian film actor. He appeared in more than 60 films between 1927 and 1966. Life and career Born in Rome, Calì started his career on stage, being mainly active in Roman dialect theater and in avanspettacolo. He made his film debut in 1927, in Umberto Paradisi's ''Un balilla del '48'', but his career ultimately started after the Second World War, when he was cast in a good number of films of different genres and quality, even if usually playing very minor roles. Calì is probably best known for his association with director Alberto Lattuada, who gave him his first significant roles, namely Smarazzacucco in '' The Mill on the Po'' (1949) and the sailor in ''The Overcoat'' (1952). Giuseppe Calì (born 28 September 1952) is an Italian professional golfer. Calì was born in Mirano. He turned professional in 1971 and has won twelve professional tournaments in his home country, including five in 1988. Calì played on the European circuit from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s - sometimes on the European Tour itself and sometimes on the second tier Challenge Tour. His best results on the European Tour were sixth places at the 1990 Italian Open and the 1991 Mediterranean Open. In 1990 he won both the Cerruti Open and the Memorial Olivier Barras on the Challenge Tour and topped the Challenge Tour money rankings. Davide Cali (born 1972) is a Swiss-born Italian writer of picture books and graphic novels, primarily for children and young adults. He lives in Italy. His work has been published in 25 countries and translated into many languages. He also writes under the pseudonyms Taro Miyazawa and Daikon. Gaetano Emanuel Calì (1885 in Catania – 1936 in Syracuse) was an Italian composer, orchestra conductor, and bandleader. He was student of Francesco Paolo Frontini, under whom he began to study classical instead of popular music. Calì composed his most popular piece in Malta in 1910, when he found himself on the island for professional reasons. Aimone Calì (born 11 February 1997) is an Italian football player who plays for Serie D club Romana. Club career In his youth career he represented Roma and Lazio. Francesco Paolo Augusto "Frank" Cali (, ; March 26, 1965 – March 13, 2019), also known as "Franky Boy", was an American mobster and the eventual acting boss of the Gambino crime family. Law enforcement considered Cali to have been the Gambinos' "ambassador to Sicilian mobsters" and had linked him to the Inzerillo Mafia family from Palermo.
