The Calgary Surge is a Canadian professional basketball team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, that competes in the Canadian Elite Basketball League since 2023. They relocated from Guelph, where they were known as the Guelph Nighthawks. They were renamed and rebranded as the Calgary Surge. The team plays at home at WinSport Event Centre. Canadian Elite Basketball League
The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) is a men's professional minor league basketball organization. The CEBL was founded in 2017 and began play in 2019 with six teams competing all owned and operated by ownership group Canadian Basketball Ventures. The league currently consists of ten teams from six different provinces, with four being from Ontario, two from Alberta and one each from the provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Quebec, making the CEBL the largest professional sports league based entirely in Canada. Canada Olympic Park
Canada Olympic Park (COP), formerly known as Paskapoo Ski Hill, is a ski hill and multi-purpose training and competition facility located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, owned and operated by WinSport. It is currently used both for high performance athletic training and for recreational purposes by the general public. Kyle Landry
Kyle Landry (born April 4, 1986) is a Canadian former professional basketball player currently working as an assistant coach for the Calgary Surge of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). He played college basketball for Northern Arizona and also represented the senior Canadian national basketball team. College career Landry played NCAA Division I college basketball at Northern Arizona University. He saw extensive action in all four years with the Lumberjacks, and averaged a team-leading 17.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, in his senior season (2007–08) for the team. 2023 CEBL Season
The 2023 CEBL season is the fifth season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). It began on May 24, 2023, and the regular season ended on July 30, 2023. It was the inaugural season for the Calgary Surge and the Winnipeg Sea Bears. The Calgary Surge relocated from Guelph while Winnipeg was added as an expansion franchise. This year was the first season where the league was divided in two conferences. The top four teams in each conference were going to qualify for the playoffs, unless the Vancouver Bandits finished in fifth place in the Western Conference, when the fourth-place team will be eliminated instead; as hosts, the Bandits automatically qualify for the semi-finals, along with the first-place team from the Eastern Conference.
