CMT Association
The CMT Association is a non-profit, global, professional organization of technical analysts headquartered in New York City, servicing over 9,000 market analysis professionals in around 80 countries. The CMT Association certifies that an individual is competent in the use of technical analysis via the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation. Chartered Market Technician As with similar finance organizations that establish standards of competence for its members, the CMT Association provides a self-developed standard of proficiency. The Chartered Market Technician program is the examination series that demonstrates proficiency in technical analysis. Candidates who pass the program's three examination levels, and who are also full members of the CMT Association, earn the Chartered Market Technician designation (CMT), certifying that the individual is competent in the use of technical analysis. In finance, technical analysis is an analysis methodology for analysing and forecasting the direction of prices through the study of past market data, primarily price and volume. Russell R. Wasendorf Sr. (born 1948) is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Peregrine Financial Group, also known as ''PFGBEST'', a futures commission merchant (commonly known as a commodity broker) that filed for bankruptcy protection in Chicago in July 2012. He was arrested in July 2012 following a suicide attempt. In September he pleaded guilty to embezzling $215.5 million from more than 13,000 customers over the course of 20 years. On January 31, 2013, he received a 50-year sentence for fraud, effectively a life sentence. Career Wasendorf established Wasendorf & Son Inc. in 1980, renamed it Peregrine Financial Group (PFG) 10 years later and opened a Chicago office, according to the company website.
