History CHSU traces its origins to 1995, when the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) granted Four Seasons Radio Ltd. a new FM licence for the Kelowna market offering country music. The station's initial call letters were CKBL and its branding was ''99.9 The Bullet''. It launched in October 1995, and was the sister station of CKIQ, a all-news radio, news/talk radio, talk station on the AM broadcasting, AM band that was also owned by Four Seasons. In 1996, Okanagan Skeena Radio Group Ltd. acquired a number of stations in the Okanagan market when it bought out Four Seasons' parent company. CKFR is a radio station in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Broadcasting at 1150 AM, the station airs news/ talk and sports formats, and identifies on air as ''AM 1150 News, Talk, Sports''. It is owned by Vista Radio. Currently on-air is Phil Johnson, host of The AM 1150 Early Edition, alongside producer Jaden Large. Catch them weekdays from 6-9AM. Telemedia
Telemedia was a Canadian media company, which had holdings in radio, television and magazine publishing. The company was launched in 1968 by Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien, when he purchased CKAC in Montreal from Power Corporation of Canada. CKAC remained the company's radio flagship for its entire existence. Telemedia was held privately until it became publicly traded in the late 1980s. Telemedia's magazine assets, including ''Canadian Living'', ''Harrowsmith (magazine), Harrowsmith'', ''Homemakers (magazine), Homemakers'' and the Canadian editions of ''TV Guide (Canada), TV Guide'' and ''Elle (magazine), Elle'', were sold to Transcontinental Media in 2000. Astral Media
Astral Media Inc. was a Canadian media conglomerate. It was Canada's largest radio broadcaster, with 84 radio stations in eight provinces. Astral was also a major player in premium and specialty television in Canada, with 23 specialty channels and two conventional stations. In addition, Astral had a presence in out-of-home advertising. In March 2012, Bell Media announced its intent to acquire Astral for $3.38 billion. Although an attempt to purchase the entirety of the company was blocked under competition law, the CRTC approved a revised offer on June 27, 2013, which saw various Astral specialty channels and radio stations divested to competitors. Vista Radio Ltd. (also formerly known as Vista Broadcast Group) is a Courtenay, British Columbia-based media company. Owned by Westerkirk Capital, Vista is the second-largest owner of radio stations in Canada. The company only owned stations in British Columbia until 2007, when it expanded outside the province by acquiring an existing station in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and launching a new one in Grande Prairie, Alberta. CKQQ-FM (103.1 Hertz, MHz) is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts a classic hits format in Kelowna, Kelowna, British Columbia. The station is owned by Jim Pattison Group. History The station's origins are actually that of an amateur radio station with the call letters 10AY owned by the Kelowna Amateur Radio Club, whose founding members in 1928 were George Dunn, Bobby Johnston, Harry Blakeborough and James William Bromley Browne. The club was formed with the sole purpose of obtaining a non-commercial radio license from the federal radio and telecommunications regulator of the day. 10AY broadcast church services, theatre shows and concert performances by the Ogopogo Concert Club.
