CFL Class 2000
CFL Class 2000 is a class of electric multiple units operated by CFL on the Luxembourg railway network. They were built in 1990–1992 by a consortium of De Dietrich, ANF and Alstom and are similar to SNCF's Z 11500 class. History The Z2 family of multiple units was designed by Francorail and Ateliers de construction du Nord de la France. CFL selected a variant of the Z 11500 class for their network. Since 2024, the 2000 series is being replaced by 34 Coradia Stream railcars from the Coradia family produced by Alstom, which is due to increase the CFL's total seat capacity by 46%. All units are due to be transferred to Romania's CFR by the end of 2025, with the first four having left Luxembourg on 4 April 2025. Names Four 2000s have been named after places in Luxembourg. CAF Reichshoffen, formerly De Dietrich Ferroviaire (DDF) is a French manufacturer of railway rolling stock and operated by CAF France, based in Reichshoffen, France. It was formed as a division of the De Dietrich group, which has a history going back to 1684. History Origins DDF constructed the carriages for the Enterprise train service jointly operated by Iarnród Éireann and Northern Ireland Railways between Dublin in the Republic of Ireland and Belfast in Northern Ireland. Dudelange
Dudelange (; ; ) is a commune with town status in southern Luxembourg. It is the fourth-most populous commune, with 22,043 inhabitants. Dudelange is situated close to the border with France. The commune also includes the smaller town of Budersberg, to the north-west. The Mont Saint-Jean, close to Budersberg, hosts the ruins of a medieval castle. Kautenbach Railway Station
Kautenbach () is a village in the commune of Kiischpelt, in northern Luxembourg. In 2024, the village had a population of 152. Kautenbach was a commune in the canton of Wiltz until January 1, 2006, when it was merged with the commune of Wilwerwiltz to form the new commune of Kiischpelt. The law creating Kiischpelt was passed on 14 July 2005. Until 17 April 1914, the commune was known as 'Alscheid', after its former administrative centre. Line 10 is a Luxembourgish railway line connecting Luxembourg City to the centre and north of the country, as well as on to Liège, in Belgium. The terminus at the southern end is Luxembourg railway station, whilst the terminals at the northern end are Diekirch, Wiltz, Troisvierges and Liège. It is designated and predominantly operated by the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL). History On 21 July 1862, the Chemins de fer de l'Est opened the line section from Luxembourg railway station to Ettelbruck railway station to commercial traffic. On 15 December 1866, the line was extended to Troisvierges railway station before reaching the Belgian border and Gouvy railway station on 20 February 1867. UIC Wagon Numbers
Wagon numbers (or coach numbers) are key data for railway operations. They enable a railway wagon or coach to be positively identified and form a common language between railway operators, infrastructure companies and the state authorities. The system of wagon numbering has been laid down by the International Union of Railways (''Union internationale des chemins de fer'' or ''UIC'', founded in 1922) and is similar to that used for the UIC identification marking for tractive stock, locomotives and multiple units.
