2023 French Open
The 2023 French Open was a Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, from 28 May to 11 June 2023, comprising singles, doubles and mixed doubles play. Junior and wheelchair tournaments were also played. It was the 122nd edition (93rd as a Grand Slam) of the French Open and the second Grand Slam event of 2023. Tyra Caterina Grant
Tyra Caterina Grant (born March 12, 2008) is an Italian tennis player. She won the junior girls' doubles titles at the 2023 French Open, 2024 Australian Open and the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Early life Grant was born in Rome. Born and raised in Italy, Grant is the daughter of American former basketball player Tyrone Grant, who relocated to Italy to play basketball, and Cinzia Giovinco, an Italian tennis teacher. She has both Italian and American citizenship. She trained at the Piatti Tennis Center in Bordighera, before later moving to Orlando to train at the USTA National Campus. Her younger brother, Tyson, is also a tennis player. Her mother acts as her manager. 2023 French Open – Men's Singles
Novak Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud in the final, 7–6(7–1), 6–3, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2023 French Open. It was his third French Open title and record-breaking 23rd men's singles major title overall, surpassing Rafael Nadal's all-time record. Djokovic became the first man to achieve a triple career Grand Slam in singles, and the oldest champion in French Open history at the age of 36 years and 20 days. Nadal was the reigning champion, but withdrew due to a left hip injury. This was the first time the 14-time champion missed the tournament since his debut in 2005. With his withdrawal, Nadal fell out of the top 100 of the ATP rankings for the first time since 2003. Donald Ramphadi (born 10 June 1993),alternate link nicknamed Dona, is a South African wheelchair tennis player who plays in the sport's quad division. Ramphadi, alongside partner Andy Lapthorne, is the 2023 French Open quad wheelchair doubles champion. Andy Lapthorne
Andrew David Lapthorne (born 11 October 1990) is a British wheelchair tennis player. He took up wheelchair tennis in 2005, and entered the quad division in 2008. He is active in both singles and doubles tournaments, and has 17 grand slam titles in singles and doubles. He competed at his first Summer Paralympics at London 2012 in the quad singles and in the quad doubles, in which he won a silver medal and is now a four-time Paralympic medallist and British no.1 Quad tennis player, who started playing wheelchair tennis at the age of 10. Niels Vink
Niels Vink (born 6 December 2002) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player. Vink has won five Grand Slam singles titles, two at the French Open, two at Wimbledon and one at the US Open. He has also won nine Grand Slam doubles titles, all have been with Sam Schröder. At the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Vink won a gold medal with partner Sam Schröder in the Quad Doubles, and a bronze in the Quad Singles. Kgothatso Montjane
Kgothatso Montjane (born 3 June 1986) is a South African wheelchair tennis player. In 2024, she became the first black South African woman to win at Wimbledon when she won the wheelchair women's doubles. Early life Montjane was born in Seshego on the periphery of Polokwane, Limpopo with a congenital disorder which affected both of her hands and a foot with the other foot being amputated by the age of 12. Career Montjane is a successful wheelchair tennis player who is placed in the top 10 of the ITF ranking. Her highest rank was 5 in the world in 2005. She was named South Africa's disabled sportswoman of the year three times, in 2005, 2011 and 2015. Yui Kamiji
is a Japanese professional wheelchair tennis player. She has won 32 major titles, as well as a Paralympic silver and bronze medal in singles and doubles, respectively, at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. She would later win gold in both at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. She also won a bronze medal in singles at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Partnering Jordanne Whiley, Kamiji achieved the Grand Slam in doubles in 2014, and also won the Wheelchair Tennis Masters in doubles. Kamiji is currently managed by Avex Group under its ''Avex Challenged Athletes'' program. 2013–present Kamiji won singles titles in Iizuka, Daegu, Paris, St Louis, and became the first and so far only non-Dutchwoman to win the tennis Masters title. Gordon James Reid (born 2 October 1991) is a British professional wheelchair tennis player. He has been ranked world No. 1 in singles and in doubles. Reid has won two Summer Paralympics, Paralympic gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal, as well as a two Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major singles titles and List of men's wheelchair tennis champions, a record 27 major doubles titles. Alfie Hewett
Alfie Hewett (born 6 December 1997 in Norwich, Norfolk) is a British professional wheelchair tennis player. He is the current world No. 2 in singles and world No. 1 in doubles. Hewett has won a total of 32 major titles: ten in singles and 22 in doubles, partnering Gordon Reid for all of the latter. The pair completed the Grand Slam in 2021 (the first to do so since Stéphane Houdet first achieved the feat in 2014 with multiple partners), and won Paralympic gold in men's doubles at the 2024 Summer Paralympics, having been silver medalists in the two previous Games.
