C. T. Fernando
Cyril Tudor Fernando (28 January 1921 – 17 October 1977; Sinhala: සිරිල් ටියුඩර් ප්රනාන්දු), popularly known as C.T. Fernando, was a Sri Lankan singer and composer. One of the most popular singers in Sri Lankan music often known as the First Pop singer in Sri Lanka, Fernando was praised by critics for the themes and wording of his songs like "Vana Bamaru," "Bilinda Nelwa Ukule" and "Rosa Male." His other popular songs include "Lo Ada Ninde", "Gile Male Tarawa" and "Mariya Mawu Kuse." Patrick Denipitiya
Patrick Tibertius Maximus Denipitiya (11 August 1934—23 March 2013) was a Sri Lankan musician. He was part of the movement that brought western music to Sri Lanka in the 1960s, he also introduced the electric Hawaiian guitar into Sri Lankan sinhala music industry and was responsible for the musical composition, arrangements, music direction and performance of many Sinhala songs and films from the early-1950s to 1997. He had a unique ability whereby he could write music scores without using an instrument in both Eastern and Western notation. He was able to do this for an entire orchestra that utilized both eastern and western instruments. ''Gamperaliya'' is a 1963 Sri Lankan drama film directed by Dr. Lester James Peries screenplay, dialogue and the script by Reggie Siriwardena and Tissa Abeysekara; it was adapted from the novel '' Gamperaliya'' by Martin Wickramasinghe. The film starts ensemble cast of several eras together including, Henry Jayasena, Punya Heendeniya, Wickrama Bogoda, Trilicia Gunawardena and Gamini Fonseka. The film was groundbreaking in Sinhala cinema shot entirely outside of a studio using one lamp and hand held lights for lighting. The movie exemplifies Peries's use of family tensions to symbolize wider issues. Latha Walpola
Deshamanya Matharage Rita Genevieve Fernando, better known by her stage name Latha Walpola ( si, ලතා වල්පොල), is a prominent Sri Lankan vocal artist. It was during when Walpola was a member of a church choir, that she began a career that led to her becoming one of Sri Lanka's premier singers of her day. Karunaratne Abeysekera
Karunaratne Abeysekera (3 June 1930 – 20 April 1983) was one of Sri Lanka's most famous Sinhala broadcasters. He was also a poet and songwriter and was widely admired for his excellent command of Sinhala. Abeysekera wrote the lyrics to over 2,000 songs, a record for a lyricist in Sri Lanka. His compositions are still covered by some of the island's top musicians to this day, introducing his lyrics to new audiences in South Asia, and his songs are played regularly by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
