Bygstad
Bygstad is a village in Sunnfjord Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the Dalsfjorden, about northwest of the innermost part of the fjord. The municipal center, Sande, is about to the southeast of Bygstad and Førde Airport, Bringeland sits about east of the village. The village is an old church site where there once was a stave church here dating back to the 13th century. The present Bygstad Church was built in 1845 and it serves the western part of the municipality of Gaular. Bygstad Church
Bygstad Church ( no, Bygstad kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sunnfjord Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Bygstad. It one of the four churches for the Gaular parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1845 using designs by the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 300 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1330, but it was not new at that time. The first church in Bygstad was a wooden stave church that was likely built during the 13th century. The first church was located at Kvamme, about west of the present-day site of the church. Kristian Lien
Kristian Lien (10 May 1915 – 20 May 1996) was a Norwegian politician for the Christian Democratic Party. He grew up in Bergen, but settled at Bygstad. He served as mayor of Gaular municipality, and was a member of Sogn og Fjordane county council from 1968 to 1975. Dalsfjorden (Sunnfjord)
Dalsfjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, and Sunnfjord. It is one of the two main fjords that comprise the Sunnfjord region of the county. The fjord is about long and it is generally about wide. The Dalsfjorden is a narrow fjord that cuts into roughly eastwards from the village of Vilnes on the island of Atløyna in Askvoll municipality. The outer part of the fjord is also known as the Vilnesfjorden. The mouth of the fjord by Vilnes has a width of approximately , but at the village of Holmedal the fjord narrows quite a bit. Stave Church
A stave church is a medieval wooden Christian church building once common in north-western Europe. The name derives from the building's structure of post and lintel construction, a type of timber framing where the load-bearing ore-pine posts are called ''stafr'' in Old Norse (''stav'' in modern Norwegian). Two related church building types also named for their structural elements, the post church and palisade church, are often called 'stave churches'. Førde is a former municipality in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. It was located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative center was the town of Førde which in 2016 had 10,255 inhabitants. Other villages in Førde municipality included Bruland, Holsen, Moskog, and Haukedalen. The Øyrane area in the town of Førde was a large industrial/commercial area for the region. The European Route E39 highway passed through the municipality, and it passed by the lake Holsavatnet.
