Butlins Minehead
Butlins Resort Minehead is a holiday camp operated by Butlins, located in Minehead in Somerset, England. It opened in 1962 and remains in use today. It was known as Butlin's Minehead until 1987, and as Somerwest World from then until 1999, when it reopened as Butlins Minehead Resort. History In the winter of 1961, Billy Butlin began work on creating a holiday camp in Minehead. The site was selected because of its flatness, good rail links, and proximity to the town and sea. The site was not without its problems, however, including flooding. In order to solve this, a trench was excavated around the site and an earth wall constructed. The trench later became the site's boating pond. The site opened to the public on 26 May 1962, the construction having cost £2 million. Minehead
Minehead is a coastal town and civil parish in Somerset, England. It lies on the south bank of the Bristol Channel, north-west of the county town of Taunton, from the boundary with the county of Devon and in proximity of the Exmoor National Park. The parish of Minehead has a population of approximately 11,981, making it the most populous town in the western part of the Somerset West and Taunton local government district, which in turn, is the worst area in the country for social mobility. This figure includes Alcombe and Woodcombe, suburban villages which have been subsumed into Minehead. There is evidence of human occupation in the area since the Bronze and Iron Ages. ''Alpine Racer 2'' is a 3D computer graphics, 3D alpine skiing arcade game released by Namco in 1996 in video gaming, 1996. It is the sequel to ''Alpine Racer''. Unlike the original, two cabinets can be linked together so that players can race against each other. Sleep research ''Alpine Racer 2'', along with ''Tetris'', was used by Harvard sleep scientist Robert Stickgold to study the relationship between learning and sleep. He found that after playing the game for hours before going to sleep, even subjects suffering from anterograde amnesia, the inability to form new memories, would dream of skiing. Road Fighter
is a racing arcade video game developed by Konami and released in 1984. It was the first racing game from Konami. The goal is to reach the finish line within the stages without running out of time, hitting other cars or running out of fuel (which is refilled by hitting a special type of car). The game spawned a spiritual successor, '' Konami GT'' (1986), and two sequels, ''Midnight Run: Road Fighter 2'' (1995) and ''Winding Heat'' (1996). A Japan-only sequel was also released 14 years later, ''Road Fighters'' (2010). Tekken 3
is a fighting game, the third entry in the ''Tekken'' series. It was released to the arcades in 1997, before being ported for the PlayStation in 1998. The arcade version of the game was released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2 as part of ''Tekken 5''s Arcade History mode. The game was also re-released as part of Sony's PlayStation Classic. Rapid River (video Game)
is a 1997 arcade game released by Namco. The game is about white water rafting, and players must race against the clock, passing through checkpoints to extend the time they have to complete the level. The game is notable for its unique player controls that aim to replicate oars. It was intended to appeal to dating couples. ''Sega Touring Car Championship'' (セガ ツーリングカーチャンピオンシップ) is an arcade racing game released by Sega's AM Annex for the Model 2 mainboard in 1996. It was later ported to the Sega Saturn and Microsoft Windows. The game was housed in a sit-down cabinet with speakers installed on either side of the player's head and a subwoofer under the seat. Gameplay The game has four tracks, one of which is a secret track unlocked by reaching the final race of the season. The Saturn port includes an unlockable fifth track, allows players to create customized cars and save them to memory, and uses a split screen for multiplayer modes. Ridge Racer 2
is an arcade racing game that was released by Namco in 1994 for their System 22 hardware. Despite its name, ''Ridge Racer 2'' is more of an updated version of ''Ridge Racer'' (which had been released in the previous year), than an actual sequel. Gameplay The gameplay is very much like that of the original, but unlike the vanilla version of ''Ridge Racer'' (which was a single-player game), in ''Ridge Racer 2'' up to eight players can play simultaneously when four two-player cabinets are linked together.
