Robert Bruning
Robert Bruning (27 May 1928 – 4 March 2008) was an Australian actor and film producer, who was the founder of film production firm Gemini Productions Biography Bruning was born as Robert Bell in Dongara, Western Australia in 1928. He worked as an amateur actor at the New Theatre in the Sydney suburb of Newtown in the 1940s and 1950s. Bruning also was a regular guest performer in ''Homicide'', ''Division 4'', ''The Sullivans'' and ''A Country Practice''. He also had substantial roles on Australian films such as 1970's ''Ned Kelly'' and his production credits, on sitcoms, variety, and drama add up to more than 200 hours of television. Of his production career, he is notable for his creation of Australia's first telemovie, '' Is There Anybody There?'', of which 21 more were made. ''Chopper Squad'' is an Australian television series produced by the Reg Grundy Organisation for the 0-10 Network (as it was then known).Albert Moran, ''Moran's Guide to Australian TV Series'', AFTRS 1993 p 115 The series recounted the work of a helicopter rescue team operating on Dee Why beach in Sydney. Production Pilot The original pilot was made in 1976, airing in Melbourne in November 1976 and Newcastle (NSW) in August 1977. There was quite a time lag between the pilot and the series going to air in May 1978. As with many series there were changes between the initial pilot and the series. Three actors from the pilot did not continue into the series - Rebecca Gilling, Max Osbiston and Tony Bonner. Additionally, the surnames of characters Phil and Tim were changed. AusStage: The Australian Live Performance Database is an online database which records information about live performances in Australia, providing records of productions from the first recorded performance in Australia (1789, by convicts) up until the present day. The only repository of Australian performing arts in the world, it is managed by a consortium of universities, government agencies, industry organisations and arts institutions, and mostly funded by the Australian Research Council. ''The Newman Shame'' is a 1977 Australian television film starring George Lazenby and produced by Robert Bruning who previously worked together on '' Is There Anybody There?'' (1976). Synopsis John Brandy is an ex-cop on holiday in Singapore with his girlfriend Ginger and their friend Betty Newman when Betty's husband, Frank, calls them just before the latter commits suicide. The three of them return to Perth where Betty is told Frank starred in a pornographic movie. Betty asks John to investigate what happened. John discovers that Newman killed himself after being drugged at a party and found himself in a pornographic film; he was blackmailed and embezzled money to pay off his tormentors, but when the film was distributed anyway he decided to take his own life.
