Brighton Ski Resort
Brighton Ski Resort is a ski area located in Big Cottonwood Canyon in Brighton, Utah, United States, about from downtown Salt Lake City. It is owned and operated by Boyne Resorts. Description Brighton Ski Resort was the first ski resort in Utah, and one of the first in the United States. Brighton was started in 1936 when members of the Alpine Ski Club built a rope tow from wire and an old elevator motor. The resort was named for Thomas W. Brighton, who is credited with constructing the first buildings in the area. In 1943, Zane Doyle and Willard Jensen purchased the T-bar from K Smith. In 1954 when there was talk of expansion, Willard insisted that going out on a limb to build a double chair lift instead of another T-bar was worth the risk. Brighton is a town in eastern Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Description Brighton is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon and covers an area of . While the exact number of residents is unknown, as of 2018, the population was estimated to be between 180 and 260. Both the Brighton Ski Resort and the Solitude Mountain Resort are located in Brighton. History The area was first settled in 1871 but remained unincorporated. On November 6, 2018, residents of the area voted for incorporation, which took effect January 1, 2020. The community had post offices from 1889 to 1905 and from 1946 to 1953. Solitude Mountain Resort
Solitude Mountain Resort is a ski resort located in the Big Cottonwood Canyon of the Wasatch Mountains, thirty miles southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah. With 66 trails, and vertical, Solitude is one of the smaller ski resorts near Salt Lake City, along with its neighbor Brighton. It is a family-oriented mountain, with a wider range of beginner and intermediate slopes than other nearby ski resorts; 50% of its slopes are graded "beginner" or "intermediate," the highest such ratio in the Salt Lake City area. Solitude was one of the first major US resorts to adopt an RFID lift ticket system, allowing lift lines to move more efficiently. It was followed by Alta Ski Area in 2007.
