Bright Antenna Records is an independent record label, founded in 2007 and based in Mill Valley, California. The label was created by producer Sep V and by writer Tiffanie DeBartolo and named after the lyrics to the song " The Spirit of Radio" by Rush. Bright Antenna specializes in artist development and, in addition to its label services, operates an online store for its vinyl and specialty products. BA's staff includes A&R veteran Braden Merrick, who discovered and broke The Killers. Tiffanie DeBartolo
Tiffanie DeBartolo (born November 27, 1970) is an American novelist, filmmaker, co-founder of the independent record label Bright Antenna, and co-founder of The ShineMaker Foundation. Tiffanie has written three novels: ''God-Shaped Hole,'' ''How To Kill a Rock Star,'' and ''Sorrow''. She wrote and directed the film ''Dream for an Insomniac'', featuring Ione Skye and Jennifer Aniston, released in 1996. She also penned the text to the graphic novel ''GRACE: The Jeff Buckley Story'', which was released in April 2019. Biography DeBartolo is the daughter of former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr. She attended the all-girls Villa Maria High School and dropped out her senior year when they wouldn't let her graduate early. Mona (band)
MONA is a project started by Nick Brown. Though there has been a revolving cast of band members, Nick has been the sole driving force behind the band. He began in Dayton, Ohio, though he is now based in Nashville, Tennessee. Brown revealed the band's name refers to his grandmother, Mona Brown. The band rose to fame appearing as part of the BBC's ''Sound of 2011'' poll; which was revealed on 5 December 2010. The band was also crowned the '' Brand New for 2011'' title at the MTV Awards. Spring Tigers are an American pop band from Athens, Georgia. The band was formed in March 2008. History The band was formed when Kris Barratt, as frontman of the since disbanded group, the Capes, found himself stranded in Athens mid-tour when his record label was unable to fly him back to England. According to Barratt, the new band was formed to open for the band, the Lodger, only five days before the showtime, "One night when I was at GO Bar, I talked to a guy I knew that worked there about playing the show with me, and between the two of us we were able to find more people and form a band to play the show." The Cure are an English rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex. Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician. He is the lead singer, guitarist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the rock band the Cure, which he co-founded in 1978. He was also the lead guitarist for the band Siouxsie and the Banshees from 1982 to 1984, and was part of the short-lived group the Glove in 1983. Orbital (band)
Orbital are an English electronic music duo from Otford, Kent, England, consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. The band's name is taken from Greater London's orbital motorway, the M25, which was central to the early rave scene during the early days of acid house. Additionally, the cover art on three of their albums showcase stylised atomic orbitals. Orbital have been critically and commercially successful, known particularly for their live improvisation during shows. They were initially influenced by early electro and punk rock. Career Early years In 1989, Orbital recorded " Chime" on their father's 4 track tape deck, which they released on Oh Zone Records in December 1989 and re-released on FFRR Records a few months later. Paul Hartnoll
Paul Hartnoll (born 19 May 1968) is one of two brothers (the other being Phil Hartnoll) who make up the electronic dance act Orbital. History Hartnoll played in a local band during the mid-1980s, Noddy and the Satellites, featuring clarinetist Duncan Walker. In 1987 Paul and his brother Phil began recording under the name Orbital with keyboards, a drum machine and a 4-track. Hartnoll's first brush with fame came when Orbital appeared on Top of the Pops on 22 March 1990. Speaking to The Guardian in December 2013 he explained this was a long way from his Sevenoaks roots. "A week before I was saying to the boss in the pizza place I was working, 'Ah I've just seen next week's rota. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic band formed in Wirral, Merseyside, in 1978. The group consists of co-founders Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals), along with Martin Cooper (keyboards, saxophone) and Stuart Kershaw (drums); McCluskey has been the only constant member. Regarded as pioneers of electronic music, OMD combined an experimental, minimalist ethos with pop sensibilities, becoming key figures in the late-1970s/early-1980s emergence of synth-pop. The band were also one of the original acts involved in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US. Middle Class Rut, also known as MC Rut, is an American alternative rock band duo consisting of vocalist/guitarist Zack Lopez and vocalist/drummer Sean Stockham. They were formed in Sacramento, California in December 2006. After several EP's, in 2010 they released their first full-length LP, ''No Name No Color''. Magic Wands (band)
Magic Wands is an American rock band, originally from Nashville, Tennessee, and currently based in Los Angeles, California. History The band was formed by Chris Valentine (guitar, vocals) and Dexy Valentine (guitar, keyboards, vocals) in summer 2008, after Chris found a copy of Dexy's song "Teenage Love" on her band the Dollphins' MySpace page and the two got in touch. Dexy moved from Los Angeles to Nashville and the two began to write music together. The name of the band stemmed from the gift of a magic wand from Chris to Dexy while the two were living on opposite sides of the country. Their first single, "Black Magic", was released on 7" vinyl in 2008 by Ark Recordings. Ours is an American-based rock band led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Gnecco. History Harmony Bandits and Sour Since their creation in 1990, the line-up has evolved many times, but Gnecco has always felt that having a rotating group of musicians who could play off each other was important. In high school, Gnecco was in the band Lost Child and later, The Harmony Bandits, which eventually evolved into what is now Ours. In 1994, Ours released their first album titled ''Sour'' under their own label Beatnik Records, owned by Mike Marri. Afterwards, the band dissolved and did not reform again for several years.
