Andrea "Bree" Boyce, (born March 25, 1989) is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Florence, South Carolina who was named Miss South Carolina 2011. Biography From first to seventh grade, Boyce attended The Kings Academy in Florence, South Carolina. She later transferred to public school. She won the title of Miss South Carolina on July 2, 2011, when she received her crown from outgoing titleholder Desiree Puglia. Boyce's platform is "Eating Healthy and Fighting Obesity." At age 17, Boyce weighed . Her doctor diagnosed her excessive weight as the source of her knee problems, and warned that she would have more health problems in the future unless she lost weight. Miss South Carolina
The Miss South Carolina competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of South Carolina in the Miss America pageant. The pageant was first held in Myrtle Beach and moved to Greenville starting in 1958 and remained in that city until the 1990s. Spartanburg hosted the pageant in a few different venues until new leadership took over the organization and moved the pageant to Columbia, SC in 2011. The pageant was televised since the 1960s until the 1998 pageant. Televising was resumed with the 2000 pageant through 2006. The pageant returned to television in 2014. Two South Carolina women have become Miss America; Marian McKnight of Manning in 1957 and Kimberly Aiken of Columbia in 1994. Francis Marion University is a public university near Florence, South Carolina. It is named in honor of American Revolutionary War Brigadier General Francis Marion. History The university dates back to 1957, when the University of South Carolina set up a freshman college in a basement room of the Florence County Library. A few years later, in 1961, USC-Florence was set up on land donated by the Wallace family six miles east of Florence, South Carolina.
