Brampton is a market town, Civil parishes in England, civil parish and Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, electoral ward within the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England, about east of Carlisle, Cumbria, Carlisle and south of Hadrian's Wall. St Martin's Church, Brampton, St Martin's Church is famous as the only church designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb, and contains one of the most exquisite sets of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, and executed in the William Morris studio. History The town is thought to have been founded in the 7th century as an Anglian settlement. The place-name 'Brampton' is first attested in Charter Rolls of 1252, where it appears as ''Braunton''. City Of Carlisle
The City of Carlisle ( , ) is a local government district of Cumbria, England, with the status of a city and non-metropolitan district. It is named after its largest settlement, Carlisle, but covers a far larger area which includes the towns of Brampton and Longtown, as well as outlying villages including Dalston, Scotby and Wetheral. In 2011 the district had a population of 107,524, and an area of .
