Boast
Boasting or bragging is speaking with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one's achievements, possessions, or abilities. Boasting occurs when someone feels a sense of satisfaction or when someone feels that whatever occurred proves their superiority and is recounting accomplishments so that others will feel admiration or envy. Individuals construct an image of themselves, a personal identity, and present themselves in a manner that is consistent with that image. Theodore Millon theorized that in self-presentation, individuals seek to balance boasting against discrediting themselves with excessive self-promotion or being caught blatantly misrepresenting themselves. Studies show that people often have a limited ability to perceive how their efforts at self-presentation are actually impacting their acceptance and likeability by others. Brag (folklore)
A brag is a mischievous shapeshifting goblin in the folklore of Northumbria (Northumberland and Durham Simpson, Jacqueline (2000). ''A Dictionary of English Folklore''. Three Card Brag
Brag is an 18th century British card game, and the British national representative of the vying or "bluffing" family of gambling games. It is a descendant of the Elizabethan game of Primero and one of the several ancestors to poker, the modern version just varying in betting style and hand rankings. It has been described as the "longest-standing British representative of the Poker family." History The rules of Brag first appear in 1721 in ''The Compleat Gamester'' where it is referred to as ''"The Ingenious and Pleasant Game of Bragg"'', but in fact, it originates in an almost identical game called Post and Pair which is recorded as far back as 1528 (as ''Post'') and which, in turn, was descended from Primero. Bicycle Ride Across Georgia
The Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) is an annual road-cycling tour across the US state of Georgia. It began in 1980 as an offshoot of RAGBRAI. Between 1,000 and 2,000 riders participate in this great ride every year. The route covers approximately 400 miles over 7 days with options for longer distances. Mid-week, the tour stays two nights in one town allowing riders to either rest or ride a century with lesser mile options. Rest stops are every 8–15 miles and snacks and drinks are provided to registered riders. History BRAG was originally called Georgia's Annual State Bicycling Event (GASBE) when it first began in 1980. The head leader on the idea for this event was Dot Moss. The inspiration originally came from the bicycle tour in Iowa called RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). The Trigan Empire
''The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire'', later called simply ''The Trigan Empire'', is a science fiction comic series written mainly by Mike Butterworth with artwork (initially watercolours, later gouache) by Don Lawrence, among others. It told the story of an alien culture in which futuristic technology, such as antigravity vehicles and energy ray weapons, was blended with architecture, dress, and customs reminiscent of ancient civilizations, the most obvious being those of Ancient Greece and Rome. The stories revolved around a strong and heroic leader who defended his empire from constant threats from both outside and within. The comic remains notable for the unique artwork by Don Lawrence which combines a painterly photo-realistic style with caricaturistic renderings that remain anatomically convincing. Eva Brag
Eva Brag (1829–1913) was a Swedish journalist, writer and poet. She was born to Jonas Brag, professor at the Lund University. She was given a high education at home and studied Latin, French and English and visited Great Britain and France. She was not allowed to study at the university, because university studies were closed to women until 1870, which affected her badly. She was employed as a journalist at '' Göteborgsposten'' in 1864–1865 and '' Göteborgs Handels- och Sjöfartstidning'' in 1865–1889, where she wrote political articles and literary reviews and functioned as temporary chief editor during the absence of the regular chief editor, the progressive Sven Adolf Hedlund.
