Chris Bourke
Christopher John Bourke is an Australian politician, a Labor member of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Ginninderra from 2011 to 2016. He was the first Indigenous Australian elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly. He filled the casual vacancy created by the resignation of former Chief Minister Jon Stanhope. Charles Bourke ( – 1820) was an Irish priest. Background Bourke was born in Carrowcubick, near Ballycastle, County Mayo, about 1765. Brendan Hoban states that he "was of that branch of the Bourke family that became known as the 'Heathfield' Bourkes, whose base was at Heathfield House, in the townland of Gortatoor, a few miles from what is now the village of Ballycastle" (p. 12, Hoban, 2008). Brian Bourke
Brian Bourke (born 1936 in Dublin) is an Irish artist. Life Bourke was born in Dublin in 1936. His parents were Thomas Bourke (Tómas de Búrca) and Eileen (Eibhlín) Bourke (née Somers). Bourke left school early and got a job in the art department of the Player Wills tobacco company on the condition he enrolled at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD). He later studied at Saint Martin's School of Art in London. After London, he spent time in Germany and was strongly influence by the Neue Sachlichkeit art movement. He returned to Dublin in 1957 and held his first one-man show in Dublin in 1964 at the Dawson Gallery. He travelled across Europe in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1965 Bourke won an Arts Council prize for portraiture, and represented Ireland at the Biennale de Paris. Betty Bourke
Betty Bourke (née Lucas, 23 July 1924 – 7 December 2015) was a New Zealand local-body politician and health administrator. She was first elected to the Patea Hospital Board in 1962, and later served as the board's chair for three years, unsuccessfully leading the fight against amalgamation with neighbouring hospital boards. In 1969, she became the representative for Patea on the Wanganui Hospital Board, becoming chair in 1980. She was prominent in the establishment of the Wanganui Regional Hospice Service in 1981. In the 1977 New Year Honours, Bourke was awarded the Queen's Service Medal for public services. She was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, for services to health administration and the community, in the 1988 Queen's Birthday Honours.
