The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is the governing body of association football in Botswana, and controls the national football team. It is an affiliate of FIFA, CAF and the COSAFA. The Confederation of African Football, or CAF for short (french: link=yes, Confédération Africaine de Football, ar, link=yes, الاتحاد الأفريقي لكرة القدم, al-Ittiḥād al-Afrīqī li-Kurat al-Qadam), is the administrative and controlling body for association football, futsal and beach soccer in Africa. Mogomotsi Mpote
Mogomotsi Mpote is a Motswana former footballer and manager currently in charge of club Botswana. Mpote played as a striker or classic number nine. Beginning his career as a teenager at Miscellaneous in 1976, he was nicknamed 'Teenage' because of his young age. Mpote would win the Botswana Second Division, then Botswana's second tier league with Miscellaneous before joining Orapa club Diamond Chiefs whom he helped win the Second Division as captain and player-coach in 1985. He later joined TASC, helping them win the 1990 Botswana FA Cup. After retiring as a player Mpote joined TASC as an assistant manager in 1996 and worked under Dick Chama and Seth Moleofhi. Following Moleofhi's departure in 2005 Mpote was made the manager and immediately led the club to a fourth-place league finish. Football is the number one sport in Botswana. It is organized by the Botswana Football Association. By October 2007, there are about 348 men's clubs registered. The number of woman's teams organized in the regional leagues by the season of 2021/22 is 88. The men's national team have not yet enjoyed any tangible success on the field. The women's team have achieved their greatest success by qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time, where they've reached the first knockout stage. There are less than a handful of male and female players based outside of their home country, the most famous being forward Dipsy Selolwane.
