Boris (given Name)
Boris, Borys or Barys ( Bulgarian, Russian, Serbian, uk, Борис; be, Барыс) is a male name of Bulgar origin, an extinct Oghur Turkic language. It is most commonly used in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia and other countries in Eastern Europe. The spelling variant Borys is more common in Poland. Meaning A commonly accepted theory is that it is a Bulgar language name. Its precise etymology is unclear. It may be derived from one or more of several Turkic words such as ''böri'' – meaning "wolf", or from ''bogöri'' – which means "short", or from ''bars'' – meaning "snow leopard". It can be used as a short form of the name Borislav, derived from the Slavic elements borti "battle" and slava "glory", "fame". Through the nickname " Bob" the name is often linked together with the name Robert, an ancient Germanic name meaning "fame-bright". Origin ''Boris'' is first found i ...

Boris Stones
Boris Stones ( be, Барысавы камяні, ; russian: Борисовы камни), also called Dvina Stones (russian: Двинские камни), are seven medieval artifacts erected along the bank of the Western Dvina between Polotsk and Drissa, Belarus. They probably predate Christianity in the area, but were inscribed in the 12th century with text and an image of Christ. The largest of the stones is 17 metres in circumference. History Although these landmarks were described in the 16th century by Maciej Stryjkowski, it was Georg von Cancrin in 1818 who first brought them to scholarly attention. Cancrin discovered that a boulder near Orsha had the following inscription: "In the year 1171, on the 7th day of March, was completed this cross. Lord, please help your servant Basil, whose other name is Rogvolod, Boris' son". Subsequently, several other boulders with Boris's name were discovered. In the 1930s, two of these were blown up by Communist authorities as relig ...

The Rise Of Boris Johnson
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things already mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with pronouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of pronoun ''thee'') when followed by a ...
