Bohinj Railway
The Bohinj Railway ( sl, Bohinjska proga, it, Transalpina, german: Wocheiner Bahn) is a railway in Slovenia and Italy. It connects Jesenice in Slovenia with Trieste in Italy. It was built by Austria-Hungary from 1900 to 1906 as a part of a new strategic railway, the Neue Alpenbahnen, that would connect Western Austria and Southern Germany with the then Austro-Hungarian port of Trieste. The line starts in Jesenice, at the southern end of the Karawanks Tunnel; it then crosses the Julian Alps through the Bohinj Tunnel, and passes the border town of Nova Gorica before crossing the Italian border and reaching Trieste. During the First World War, it carried the majority of Austrian military supplies to the Isonzo Front. Due to new political divisions in Europe, with the dissolution of Austria-Hungary into separate states in 1918 and the isolation of communist Yugoslavia after 1945, the railway decreased in importance during the twentieth century. Solkan Bridge
The Solkan Bridge ( sl, Solkanski most, it, Ponte di Salcano) is a arch bridge over the Soča River near Nova Gorica in western Slovenia (by railway terminology it is a viaduct). With an arch span of , it is the world's longest stone arch railroad bridge (and second-longest stone arch bridge, after Germany's , a road bridge). It holds this record because later construction technology used reinforced concrete to build bridges. It was originally built to carry the Bohinj Railway in the time of the Vienna Secession, between 1900 and 1905, and officially opened in 1906. Grahovo Ob Bači
Grahovo ob Bači (; it, Gracova Serravalle) is a village on the Bača River in the Municipality of Tolmin in the Littoral region of Slovenia. Name The name of the settlement was changed from ''Grahovo'' to ''Grahovo ob Bači'' (literally, 'Grahovo on the Bača River') in 1955. The name is believed to have the same origin as Grahovo in the Municipality of Cerknica. If so, it is probably derived from the personal name ''Grah'', which is still preserved as a surname in Slovenia and is probably borrowed from the Old High German name ''Gracco''. The place name would thus mean 'Grah's (village)'. Another possible derivation is from the common noun ''*grahovišče'' 'pea field' via the contracted form ''*grahovše''. Dornberk
Dornberk (; it, Montespino) is a village in western Slovenia in the Municipality of Nova Gorica. It is located in the Vipava Valley within the ''Goriška'' region of the Slovenian Littoral. Dornberk is the centre of a local community that includes the satellite settlements of Potok pri Dornberku, Saksid, Brdo, Tabor, Draga, Zalošče, and Budihni. Šempeter pri Gorici ( or ; it, San Pietro di Gorizia) is a town and the administrative centre of the Municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba in the Slovene Littoral region of Slovenia. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months.
