Bloomington High School South (simply referred to as BHSS or South) is a public high school in Bloomington, Indiana, United States. It is part of the Monroe County Community School Corporation. Athletics The Panthers compete in the Conference Indiana, with their main rival being the cross-town Bloomington High School North Cougars. History Bloomington High School South originated as Bloomington High School, or BHS. BHS was a prep school for Indiana University until University High School was built in the 1930s, which allowed BHS to become a general high school. It was housed, for many years, in a three-story brick building at Seminary Square Park, and was considered Bloomington's central high school in 1864. As Bloomington grew, BHS got and slowly evolved. Bloomington, Indiana
Bloomington is a city in and the county seat of Monroe County in the central region of the U.S. state of Indiana. It is the seventh-largest city in Indiana and the fourth-largest outside the Indianapolis metropolitan area. According to the Monroe County History Center, Bloomington is known as the "Gateway to Scenic Southern Indiana". Hoagland Howard Carmichael (November 22, 1899 – December 27, 1981) was an American musician, composer, songwriter, actor and lawyer. Carmichael was one of the most successful Tin Pan Alley songwriters of the 1930s, and was among the first singer-songwriters in the age of mass media to utilize new communication technologies such as television, electronic microphones, and sound recordings. Daniel Larsen is an American mathematician known for solving a 1994 conjecture of W. R. Alford, Andrew Granville and Carl Pomerance on the distribution of Carmichael numbers, commonly known as Bertrand's postulate for Carmichael numbers. Childhood and education Larsen was born in 2004 to two Indiana University Bloomington mathematics professors Michael J. Larsen and Ayelet Lindenstrauss (sister of Elon Lindenstrauss) and grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. Anthony Leal (born May 12, 2001) is an American college basketball player for the Indiana Hoosiers of the Big Ten Conference. He previously played for Bloomington South and was ranked as the third best player in the state of Indiana for the class of 2020. High school career Leal attended Bloomington High School South, where he finished his senior season averaging 18.5 points and as the all-time leading scorer in the school's history. He helped the Panthers to an undefeated regular season and a No. 1 ranking in the state of Indiana.
