Bloodflood
"Bloodflood" is the first single by English indie rock band alt-J released in October 2011 through Loud and Quiet Recordings on 7" vinyl as a double A-side single with "Tessellate". The single was limited to 300 copies. It was later put on their debut album ''An Awesome Wave''. A second part called "Bloodflood pt.II" was recorded for their second album ''This Is All Yours''. Lyrics The first line in the song "C-O double M-O-N", in reference to Southampton Common (also mentioned in "Fitzpleasure"), a park in the city centre of Southampton where singer Joe Newman, who wrote the song grew up. "It's about the fear that can happen when you're approached by people that look like they're gonna hit you and it's based in this area, it's called Southampton Common ... ''An Awesome Wave'' is the debut album by English indie rock band alt-J, released on 25 May 2012 through Infectious. The album includes the singles "Matilda"/" Fitzpleasure", " Breezeblocks" and " Tessellate". It peaked at number thirteen on the UK Albums Chart, and also charted in Belgium, France, Netherlands and Switzerland. ''An Awesome Wave'' won the 2012 British Barclaycard Mercury Prize, and in 2013 was named Album of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards. The title is a reference to a quote from the 2000 American-Canadian film ''American Psycho''. Southampton Common is a large open space to the north of the city centre of Southampton, England. It is bounded by the districts of Shirley, Bassett, Highfield and Portswood. ''Loud and Quiet'' is a British bi-monthly music magazine that focuses on new music from underground indie, alternative, electronic and hip hop artists. History and profile The magazine was founded in January 2005 by Stuart Stubbs as a home-printed fanzine in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It relocated to London in 2006. Issue 01 of ''Loud And Quiet'' featured Pete Doherty on its cover. "Matilda" is a song by British rock band alt-J from their debut studio album ''An Awesome Wave'', released on 10 January 2012 as a digital download. It was released as a split single with "Fitzpleasure" on 24 February as a digital download and on 10" triangle shaped vinyl.
