''Biological Chemistry'' is a peer-reviewed scientific journal focusing on biological chemistry. The journal is published by Walter de Gruyter and the current editor-in-chief is Bernhard Brüne. History The journal was established by Felix Hoppe-Seyler in 1877, under the name ''Zeitschrift für Physiologische Chemie'' (English: ''Journal of Physiological Chemistry''), and was edited by him until his death in 1895. The journal was subsequently renamed '' Hoppe-Seyler's Zeitschrift für Physiologische Chemie'' in 1896. Following Hoppe-Seyler, the journal was edited by his student and collaborator, the German biochemist and Nobel laureate Albrecht Kossel, until his death in 1927. In 1985 the journal was renamed as ''Biological Chemistry Hoppe-Seyler'', before obtaining its current title in 1996. Calcium is a chemical element with the symbol Ca and atomic number 20. As an alkaline earth metal, calcium is a reactive metal that forms a dark oxide-nitride layer when exposed to air. Its physical and chemical properties are most similar to its heavier homologues strontium and barium. It is the fifth most abundant element in Earth's crust, and the third most abundant metal, after iron and aluminium. The most common calcium compound on Earth is calcium carbonate, found in limestone and the fossilised remnants of early sea life; gypsum, anhydrite, fluorite, and apatite are also sources of calcium. The name derives from Latin ''calx'' "lime", which was obtained from heating limestone. Some calcium compounds were known to the ancients, though their chemistry was unknown until the seventeenth century. Scopus is Elsevier's abstract and citation database launched in 2004. Scopus covers nearly 36,377 titles (22,794 active titles and 13,583 inactive titles) from approximately 11,678 publishers, of which 34,346 are peer-reviewed journals in top-level subject fields: life sciences, social sciences, physical sciences and health sciences. It covers three types of sources: book series, journals, and trade journals. MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, or MEDLARS Online) is a bibliographic database of life sciences and biomedical information. EMBiology
EMBiology is a bibliographic database established in June 2005, and produced by Elsevier. ''EMBiology'' focuses on indexing the literature in the life sciences in general. Coverage includes science in the laboratory ( fundamental research) and science in the field ( applied research). It is designed to be smaller than EMBASE, with abstracting and indexing for 1,800 journals not covered by the larger database. However, there is some overlap. Hence, ''EMBiology'' is specifically designed for academic institutions that range from small to mid-size and all biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Global in scope, and with back file coverage to 1980, this database contains over four million bibliographic records, with an additional 250,000 records added annually. ''Current Contents'' is a rapid alerting service database from Clarivate Analytics, formerly the Institute for Scientific Information and Thomson Reuters. It is published online and in several different printed subject sections. History ''Current Contents'' was first published in paper format, in a single edition devoted only to biology and medicine. Other subject editions were added later. Initially, it consisted simply of a reproduction of the title pages from several hundred major peer-reviewed scientific journals, and was published weekly, with the issues containing title pages from journal issues only a few weeks previously, a shorter time lag than any service then available. There was an author index and a crude keyword subject index only. Author addresses were provided so readers could send reprint requests for copies of the actual articles.
