Bid (TV Channel)
Shop at Bid was a British television shopping channel that ran daily auctions and later fixed price demonstrations. It was the world's first channel of its kind. It launched as ''Bid-Up.tv''. The channel was owned by Bid Shopping. History Bid-Up.TV (2000–2005) The channel was launched by Bid Shopping, Sit-Up Shopping in October 2000. It originally broadcast 12 hours a day, much of which was pre-recorded, with auction graphics overlaid so people could bid. Bid later aired live broadcasts almost 18 hours a day, with recorded TV Shopping Network presentations during its downtime. The channel amassed a cult-following as it spread across digital platforms. This popularity can be partly attributed to the use of David Dickinson, ex-presenter of the BBC television series ''Bargain Hunt'', in various television advertising campaigns. 576i is a standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for digitizing analog television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Because of its close association with the legacy color encoding systems, it is often referred to as PAL, PAL/ SECAM or SECAM when compared to its 60 Hz (typically, see PAL-M) NTSC-colour-encoded counterpart, 480i. The ''576'' identifies a vertical resolution of 576 lines, and the ''i'' identifies it as an interlaced resolution. Peter Simon is an English shopping television presenter and former children's television personality. Career Simon is perhaps most famous for presenting the ''Double Dare'' (''Going Live!'') and ''Run the Risk'' (''Live & Kicking'') segments of the popular BBC1 Saturday morning children's shows. ''Run the Risk'', presented by Simon and Shane Richie, was later to become a separate television programme in its own right. Simon also worked on the children's TV show ''The Friday Zone''. Alexandra "Alex" Lovell (born 28 March 1973) is an English television presenter and voice-over artist. She has presented the BBC's regional news programme '' BBC Points West'' since 2005. Keith Shenton Harris (21 September 1947 – 28 April 2015) was an English ventriloquist, best known for his television show '' The Keith Harris Show'' (1982–86), audio recordings, and club appearances with his puppets Orville the Duck and Cuddles the Monkey. He had a UK Top 10 hit single in 1982 with "Orville's Song" which reached number 4 in the charts.
