Bible Broadcasting Network
The Bible Broadcasting Network (BBN) is a listener-supported global Conservative Christian radio network staffed and headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded in 1971 by Lowell Davey, who was the network's president until his death in 2017. It remains under family control, with Davey's daughter Barbara Redemann and her husband Carl Redemann leading BBN. BBN's mission statement is "to get the Word of God into the hearts and minds of as many people as possible using the most efficient means" and its motto is "Giving the Winds the Bible Voice". Doctrinally, the programming is conservative evangelical in approach. BBN eschews programming geared toward "signs and wonders", "charismatic" theology, and " prosperity theology". ''Unshackled!'' is a radio drama series produced by Pacific Garden Mission, in Chicago, Illinois, that first aired on September 23, 1950. It is one of the longest-running radio dramas in history and one of a very few still in production in the United States. The show is aired over 6,500 times around the world each week on over 1,550 radio outlets, and is translated and re-dramatized into eight languages on six continents. As of January 2022, over 3,707 episodes have been produced, each 30 minutes in length. ''Unshackled!'' is produced in the same way as shows during the Golden Age of Radio: Actors record dialogue live before a studio audience, an organist provides live incidental music, and a sound-effects person provides sounds in real time as the show progresses. WYFQ (AM)
WYFQ (930 kHz) and WYFQ-FM (93.5 MHz) are two radio stations in the Charlotte metropolitan area of North Carolina that serve as the flagship stations of the Bible Broadcasting Network. The AM station operates with a power of 5,000 watts daytime and 1,000 watts nighttime, and is licensed to Charlotte. A directional antenna system is used during the station's nighttime hours. The FM station operates with a power of 8,700 watts, and is licensed to the Wadesboro, North Carolina. WYFI (99.7 FM) is a conservative religious formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Norfolk, Virginia. WYFI serves Hampton Roads in Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. WYFI is owned and operated by Bible Broadcasting Network. History The pre-BBN years WYFI first came to air on February 15, 1959, under the ownership of Electronic Research, Inc., owned by two employees of WAVY-TV. The station's first incarnation on air was short-lived, lasting only until October. Ambert Dail, the radio columnist for the '' Daily Press'', said it had lasted "on faith and LPs" and that it had ended in an "Edsel-like burn".
