Between The Lions
''Between the Lions'' is an American animated/live-action/puppet children's television series designed to promote reading. The show was a co-production between WGBH in Boston and Sirius Thinking, Ltd., in New York City, in association with Mississippi Public Broadcasting, the distributor from seasons 5–10, in Mississippi. The show won seven Daytime Emmy awards between 2001 and 2007. It is created by alumni of ''Sesame Street'' and several season 2 episodes, notably in the ''Dance in Smarty Pants'' music videos, had a few characters from ''Sesame Street'' guest appearing. The show ran from April 3, 2000 to November 22, 2010, taking the schedule slot held by '' The Puzzle Place'' upon the latter's debut. Mississippi Public Broadcasting
Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) is the public broadcasting state network serving the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is owned by the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television (MAET), an agency of the state government that holds the licenses for all of the PBS and NPR member stations in the state. Peter Linz
Peter Linz (born June 28, 1967) is an American puppeteer. His most prominent role is being the performer for the character Walter who was introduced in the 2011 feature film ''The Muppets''. Since 1991, Linz has performed on ''Sesame Street'', where he later took on the roles of Herry Monster and Ernie on ''Sesame Street'' in 2017. Heather C. Asch (born May 28, 1966) is an American puppeteer. Biography Heather Asch, who hails from Minneapolis, graduated from the University of Connecticut's Puppet Arts Program in 1991. Her first puppet project is ''Bosum Buddies'' which deals with the topic on breast cancer. Anthony Asbury
Anthony Asbury (born September 14, 1959) is an American actor and puppeteer. He has been working as a puppeteer for over three decades. Career Asbury, a native of Arlington, Texas, began his career as a puppeteer on the ITV satire show Spitting Image, where he performed a majority of characters between 1984 and 1992, these included voicing several of the characters including Pope John Paul II, John McEnroe, and Edwin Meese, together with Steve Nallon he was the puppeteer for Margaret Thatcher from the second season. It was on Spitting Image that he met Louise Gold, who introduced Asbury to Jim Henson, who at the time was currently in the proceeds of production for ''Labyrinth''. Pamela Arciero (born May 8, 1954) is an American puppeteer and voice-over artist. She has performed for '' Between the Lions'' and '' Sesame Street'', playing Oscar the Grouch's girlfriend Grundgetta in the latter. Karola Ruth Westheimer ( Siegel; born June 4, 1928), better known as Dr. Ruth, is a German-American sex therapist, talk show host, author, professor, Holocaust survivor, and former Haganah sniper. Westheimer was born in Germany to a Jewish family. As the Nazis came to power, her parents sent the ten-year-old girl to a school in Switzerland for safety, remaining behind themselves because of her elderly grandmother. Frederick R. Newman (born May 6, 1952) is an American actor, comedian, composer, SFX artist using his voice, and former talk show host. Career Newman's first job in New York City was at ''Newsweek''. After doing comedy, Newman soon capitalized on his unique vocalizations, and Peter Workman (Workman Publishing) signed Fred to write the best-selling book ''MouthSounds'' (first published in 1980 with a vinyl record insert, and updated with a CD in 2004). Norman Stiles
Norman Stiles (born December 4, 1942) is a television writer best known for his work on the show ''Sesame Street''. Stiles worked on the show from 1971 until 1997. Stiles is perhaps best known for writing the episode segments about the death of the character ''Mr. Hooper'' (whose actor, Will Lee, had died of a heart attack in 1982). Stiles wanted to convey that expressing grief for someone who had died was difficult for both adults and children. Instead of providing an explanation, the adults of Sesame Street tell Big Bird, when he asked why Mr. Hooper had died, that there was no real reason, that it happened, as Gordon tells Big Bird, "Just because".
