Berry, Alabama
Berry is a town in Fayette County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 1,148, down from 1,238 at the 2000 census. History The town was named for Thompson Berry, a local landowner. The town incorporated in 1883 as "Berry Station". However, the first elections were not held until 1899 and the town did not appear on the U.S. Census until 1900. In the 1920s, it shortened its name to Berry. On April 27, 2011, the town was struck twice by tornadoes. Geography Berry is located in southeastern Fayette County at (33.657836, -87.606084). Alabama State Route 18 runs through the town, leading west to Fayette, the county seat, and east to Oakman. Hubbertville School is located in the community of Hubbertville in North Fayette County, Alabama. Hub, as it is known locally, is a PK – 12 school serving approximately 420 students annually. Hubbertville School was established in 1923 from the consolidation of New River, Hickory Rock, Pleasant View, and Hubbert Schools. It adopted the African Lion as its mascot. AHSAA
The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), based in Montgomery, is the governing body for interscholastic athletics and activities programs for public schools in Alabama. The AHSAA is a member National Federation of State High School Associations since 1924. The AHSAA merged with the Alabama Interscholastic Athletic Association in 1968, forming one high school athletic association for the State of Alabama in accordance with a court order relating to athletics. The AIAA had previously governed athletics at segregated African-American schools. The AHSAA sponsors state championships programs in 13 boys and 13 girls sports: Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Football, Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming and Diving, Track and Field, Tennis, Volleyball, Wrestling, Cheerleading and Indoor Track.
