Benno Vigny
Benno Vigny (real name Benoit Philippe Weinfeld; 28 October 1889 – 31 October 1965) was a French-German novelist and screenwriter. Life and works Vigny was born in Commercy and grew up in Vienna. He moved to Berlin in the 1920s. There he began working as a screenwriter in collaboration with other writers, particularly for German-British co-productions. In 1927, his novel ''Amy Jolly, die Frau aus Marrakesch'' (Amy Jolly, the Woman from Marrakesh) was published, which became the 1930 film ''Morocco'' in the USA, in which Marlene Dietrich made her Hollywood debut. Another novel, ''Nell John. Der Roman einer Verjüngten'' (Nell John, The Tale of a Rejuvenated Woman), also appeared in 1927. At the beginning of the 1930s, Vigny went to Paris, where he continued to collaborate as a screenwriter for international co-productions. Max Reichmann
Max Reichmann (1884-1958) was a German film director active during the silent and early sound eras. Before making his own films, Reichmann worked as an assistant director on several E.A. Dupont productions. After graduating to directing, he directed the tenor Richard Tauber in several films following the introduction of sound in the late 1920s.Bock & Bergfelder p.467 Reichmann was Jewish, and was therefore forced to go into exile in France when the Nazi Party took power in Germany in 1933. He later emigrated to the United States, where he died in 1958. Leo Mittler
Leo Mittler (18 December 1893 – 16 May 1958) was an Austrian playwright, screenwriter and film director. Mittler was born in Vienna, then the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, to a Jewish family. He attended the University of Music and Performing Arts and worked as a playwright and director in the German theatre. Mittler then switched to work in the booming German film industry during the silent era. Mittler's best known film as director was '' Beyond the Street'' (1929), a "street film" influenced by Soviet cinema.Prawer p.89 As well as his work in the German industry, Mittler also spent time at the American company Paramount's French language-subsidiary based at the Joinville Studios in Paris. Dimitri Buchowetzki (1885–1932) born Dmitry Savelyevych Bukhovecky was a Russian film director, screenwriter, and actor in Germany, Sweden, United States, United Kingdom, and France. Life and career Initially Buchowetzki studied law. Later he starred in a number of silent films, mostly playing antagonistic characters, including Yakov Protazanov’s melodramas ''Giant of the Spirit'' (1918) and ''Maidservant Jenny'' (1918). Karl Anton or Karel Anton (25 October 1898 12 April 1979) was a Bohemian-born German film director, screenwriter and film producer. Biography He was born in Prague on 25 October 1898. His father Wilhelm Anton (1861–1918) was a physician. Anton studied medicine, but left the school after his father's death. He started as a stage actor and director in Vienna, Linz and Prague. During the World War I Anton made amateur documentaries with his friends Karel Lamač and Otto Heller. He directed his first movie, a lyrical drama ''Gypsies'', in 1921. Anton is considered an early proponent of Czech lyrical cinema tradition. He founded his own production companies Antonfilm (1923–30) and Sonorfilm (1930–32). After the international success of ''Tonka of the Gallows'' he worked in Paris for Paramount Pictures from 1932 to 1935. After leaving Paramount he moved to Germany in 1935.
