Beginnings (The Allman Brothers Band Album)
''Beginnings'' is a 1973 reissue of the Allman Brothers Band's first two albums, ''The Allman Brothers Band'' and '' Idlewild South'', made to capitalize on the band's popularity since those records had first come out. ''Beginnings'' also includes extensive liner notes by writer Jean-Charles Costa that gave many fans their first coherent view of the band's history, as well as useful guidelines for how to tell Duane Allman's guitar parts from Dickey Betts'. The front cover depicts them at one of their many famous performances at the Fillmore East. For ''Beginnings'', the band's debut album was remixed by Tom Dowd, replacing Adrian Barber's original mix. Their first two studio releases, '' The Allman Brothers Band'' (1969) and ''Idlewild South'' (1970) (both released by Capricorn Records), stalled commercially, but their 1971 live release '' At Fillmore East'' was an artistic and commercial breakthrough. It features extended versions of their songs " In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and " Whipping Post", and is considered among the best live albums ever made. Group leader Duane Allman was killed in a motorc ...

The Fillmore East was a companion to Graham's Fillmore Auditorium, and its successor, the Fillmore West, in San Francisco, Graham's home base. Pre-Fillmore East The theatre at 105 Second Avenue that became the Fillmore East was originally built as a Yiddish theater in 1925–26 – designed by Harrison Wiseman in the Medieval Revival style – at a time when that section of Second Avenue was known as the " Yiddish Theater District" and the "Jewish Rialto" because of the numerous theatres that catered to a Yiddish-speaking audience. Called the Commodore Theater, and independently operated, it eventually was taken over by Loe ...
