The Battle of San Jacinto ( fil, Labanan sa San Jacinto, es, Batalla de San Jacinto) was a battle during the Philippine–American War fought on November 11, 1899, in San Jacinto, Pangasinan, Philippines, between the Filipinos and the United States. Background During the fall of 1899, General Elwell S. Otis began a three-pronged offensive against the Filipinos north of Manila. General Arthur MacArthur's 2nd Division was moving north along the railroad running out of Manila, General Henry W. Lawton's 1st Division moved up the Pampanga River against San Isidro. The third expedition would be led by General Loyd Wheaton, commander of the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division. Wheaton's brigade was detached and landed at San Fabian on Lingayen Gulf. After landing on 7 Nov., Wheaton sent out patrols to the south and west towards Dagupan. Brig. Gen. The Philippine–American War or Filipino–American War ( es, Guerra filipina-estadounidense, tl, Digmaang Pilipino–Amerikano), previously referred to as the Philippine Insurrection or the Tagalog Insurgency by the United States, was an armed conflict between the First Philippine Republic and the United States that started on February 4, 1899, and ended on July 2, 1902. The conflict arose in 1898 when the United States, rather than acknowledging the Philippines' declaration of independence, annexed the Philippines under the Treaty of Paris at the conclusion of the Spanish–American War. San Fabian, Pangasinan
San Fabian, officially the Municipality of San Fabian ( pag, Baley na San Fabian; ilo, Ili ti San Fabian; tgl, Bayan ng San Fabian), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 87,428 people. Etymology The town got its name after Saint Fabian during the Spanish era. History The town used to be called Angio, and had been a mission territory of friars of the Dominican Order during the Spanish era. It is named after Saint Fabian, who was a pontiff and saint of the Roman Catholic Church. Around 1818, San Fabian had a boundary dispute with Mangaldan. The boundary between the two towns was the Angalacan river, which sometimes overflows because of floods. Fighting erupted between forces of the United States and those of the Philippine Republic on February 4, 1899, in what became known as the 1899 Battle of Manila. On June 2, 1899, the First Philippine Republic officially declared war against the United States. The war officially ended on July 2, 1902, with a victory for the United States. However, some Philippine groups—led by veterans of the Katipunan, a Philippine revolutionary society—continued to battle the American forces for several more years. Among those leaders was General Macario Sakay, a veteran Katipunan member who assumed the presidency of the proclaimed Tagalog Republic, formed in 1902 after the capture of President Emilio Aguinaldo. Mangatarem, officially the Municipality of Mangatarem ( pag, Baley na Mangatarem; ilo, Ili ti Mangatarem; tgl, Bayan ng Mangatarem), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. John Alexander Logan Jr., born Manning Alexander Logan (July 24, 1865 – November 11, 1899), was a United States Army officer who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for actions during the Philippine–American War. Biography Logan was the son of Major General, statesman and politician John A. Logan and the writer, editor Mary Simmerson Cunningham Logan. Lingayen Gulf
The Lingayen Gulf is a large gulf on northwestern Luzon in the Philippines, stretching . It is framed by the provinces of Pangasinan and La Union and sits between the Zambales Mountains and the Cordillera Central. The Agno River and the Balili River drain into Lingayen Gulf. Geography The gulf has numerous islands, the most famous of which are in the Hundred Islands National Park. This tourist attraction features 123 islands, the majority of which are small in size.
