Bath (village), New York
Bath is a village in Steuben County, New York, United States. The population was 5,786 at the 2010 census. Bath is the county seat of Steuben County. The community was named either for the English city of Bath, Somerset, or for Lady Laura Pulteney, 1st Countess of Bath and daughter of Sir William Pulteney, one of the original landowners. The Village of Bath is in the Town of Bath and is northwest of Elmira and is west of Tyrone. Bath is the location of the Bath VA Medical Center (former old soldiers' home), Bath National Cemetery, and the Steuben County Fair, the oldest continuous fair in the United States. Elmira () is a city and the county seat of Chemung County, New York, United States. It is the principal city of the Elmira, New York, metropolitan statistical area, which encompasses Chemung County. The First Baptist Society Of Bath
The First Baptist Society of Bath, also known as Bath Baptist Church, is a historic Baptist church located at Bath, Steuben County, New York. The church was built in 1887–1888, and is a cruciform plan, Romanesque Revival style brick and stone church. It has a steep cross-gable roof and square corner bell tower with a tall octagonal spire. Davenport Library (Bath, New York)
Davenport Library is a historic home located at Bath in Steuben County, New York. It is a two-story brick structure built about 1830 in the Greek Revival style. The building was altered sometime between 1893 and 1915 after it became a library. It was at this time that Colonial Revival details were added. With creation of a new library on the same campus in 1999, the structure was renamed Magee House after the original builder and owner, US Representative John Magee. Bath National Cemetery
Bath National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the town of Bath, in Steuben County, New York. It encompasses , and as of the end of 2005, had 13,048 interments. History The area was originally part of the New York State Soldiers and Sailors Home, which was established in 1877; the cemetery was officially dedicated in on December 25, 1879. In 1930, it became part of the National Cemetery system. In 1987, archaeologists digging in Fort Erie discovered the remains of 28 American soldiers who died at the time of the Niagara campaign during the War of 1812. They were reinterred in Bath National Cemetery. Notable monuments * A high granite "Preservation of the Union Monument" which was dedicated to Civil War soldiers, erected in 1892.
